Projects at hand

Well I figured I would let anyone who is interested know what I will be up to for the next couple of weeks.

1. New driveshaft to cure my highway speed vibrations.
2. New speed sensor(again ) So I know how much I am speeding
3. Getting my rx7 wheels mounted and balanced
4. Ordering and will be installing custom springs
5. ordering and installing Koni inserts.
6. Finding one way or another to keep the rear from being so softly mounted

Thats about it. I am spending over 1500 on all of these neat new toys so I hope I have fun with them

Tom

Thumbs up

Sounds like she'll be ready to rip Tom!

What exactly are you referring to with #6? Are you talking about the rear diff...or the entire rear section of the car?

Yes the rear mount is what I want to stiffen up. When I was replacing the rear last week I realized how softly it is mounted and that probobly is what is making the car so sloshy between accell and downshifts. Just something else I would like to modify thats all. I want my driveline to be much like my brother's Z which has veyr little slop at all.... you should know what I mean Chike.

Phil, i would love to take 2 weeks off of work... but unlike many people I cannot afford to, I have a spare car I can use whenever and I have been riding my bike to work lately because it is only down the street anyway. Good luck with you projects... seems to me that you are in for more work than I.

I know what you mean... The Z32's definitely have little to no 'slop' in the driveline.

Well my Ford radius arm bushing trick works pretty good in the front but i'm still working on a simple/effective solution for the rear bushings. I,m thinking it going to involve some poly and a Dremel thoe.

The driveshaft shop (www.driveshaftshop.com) now has the measurments for the shafts. They do both alumanum and lightweight steel shafts. They use replacable u-joins with grease fittings. There a touch pricy, but they're quick. Call them up and they have it ready to ship the next day. I paid $316 including shipping.

thanks Mike but my new driveshaft has just come today. i will be installing it this afternoon when it cools down a little(no ac in the shop). This is only temporary as I do want to go with a steel one peice. I will pick one up after I get my suspension figured out. I also don't know that the one peice will clear my exhaust as mine is far from stock form.

1. Drivehsaft- should be done by today
2. Speed sensor fixed(broken wire)
3. Ordering Konis as soon as my cash gets cleared Probobly tomorrow
4. Waiting on Mychailo to tell me how to pay him for my springs

Thats my progress in the past few hours

Tom

Oh just another notch in the belt. I did the all aluminum radiator swap for RadSVX today. I will also try to get enough time to swap out my gear oil for something a little heavier.... I don't like synthetic gear lub

Also, I got 2 of the 4 wheels in today. I guess the other 2 will come tomorrow, although I did get all 4 center caps

Oh yeah, went down to AC again last night...lost some money... and also found out that my vibrations and noise are still there.... I got a bad feeling I know what it is.... Jesse please get in touch with me when you get a few minutes

Tom

Well I got all new ones when I did mine, acctually I had a clunk in the front so I changed those when I put in new stock struts and then 20K miles later I got new rear mounts when I changed over to the Konis. So I would say if you have no clunks in the front I would say you are safe to use the mounts you have. The rear mounts are gonna be used in a wrong manner to hold up the springs. It will push the rubber of the mount all the way up so it might me a good idea to get new ones. I would try to get new rear ones now becouse they are harder to get to after, and don't forget to put a washer to space the rear strut shank. Then if you have any problems with the front mounts it's really easy to change them after.

Ok, Just an update. I am waiting on My GC to arrive to finish the suspension. I have the RX7 wheels mounted and balanced waiting to go onto the car. I also scheduled an apointment to get the alignment done on tues when I have the project finished.

In my journies I think i have found a way to get the rear mount a little stiffer, so keep your fingers crossed I will let everyone know how it utrns out when I am done
