Re: Cumberland AX Sept 19 and 20.

OT,
Follow-up on our phone conversation:

Bump steer is the result of the tires toeing in or out as the suspension compresses/extends. Zero bump steer is optimum. Since it's tied to the geometry of the front suspension (see below), I'm wondering if the steering rack isn't moving on you (you said some bolts were missing/loose?).

In order to accomplish zero bump the tie rod must fall between an imaginary line that runs from the upper ball joint through the lower ball joint and an imaginary line that runs through the upper a-arm pivot and the lower control arm pivot. In addition, the centerline of the tie rod must intersect with the instant center created by the upper a-arm and the lower control arm.

The instant center is an imaginary point that is created by drawing a line from the upper a-arm ball joint through the a-arm pivot where it is intersected by an imaginary line that extends from the lower ball joint through the inner control arm pivot. Where the two imaginary lines intersect is the instant center.

Yeah, you'll have to modify this language to work with the fact that we've got McPhersion struts on the front I'm guessing that working with the angle that the lower control arm is at ("tuning" the front springs) and adjusting the static toe will get things straightened out.

Yes OT the steering rack does move. It does need new bushings up there. BTW I wouldn't call anything about the suspension a bump steer. Nor would you after driving my TVR

Actually, I have not driven it out of the yard yet, so I was only reporting what Jerry felt.
It occured to me later that with no power steering pump or fluid to absorb road "energys", along with the slightly smaller steering wheel, you would feel ALL of the feedback.
I'll check out the rack bushings tomorrow....
Tonight we install Kirill's new engine............................................ .
and then sleepy time

OK, I finally got to drive her home today, about 3 miles from the airport to home.
Boy, even with PS installed it sure bounces around quite a bit.
Asc soon as I can i will check out the rack bushings but when I did look at them they seemed fine...

More on this later.

So, how'd YT and Jerry do? Times and rankings! We want times and rankings!
Did YT get his s/c silver sorted out, or did he just drive the Claret all weekend? Did you get Karill's engine installed and running?

1) YT let Bart (the engine killer) run his car while YT worked the corner.....
Jerry got six runs in. Learning that big @ss slicks and no PS AND a five speed on a SVX can be a handful!
Pun intended.

2) Bart in my non-SC Claret got a 52.3 On street tires.
YT ran I think a 50.553 or something with his Supercharger 2.75 litre Silver on slicks.
Kirill ran a 59.7 in the Racer with PS and a slipping clutch.

3)People in hell want ice water.

4)Big badda boom.

5) Yes.
