Re: Koni/GC Setup

bump... I would like to sell these.... or if not I may keep them and sell my koni's. The price on the konis would be $1400 though...

Re: Koni/GC Setup

hi , i was wondering , I'm interested but since the motorsport warehouse sells them for 375$ ( springs ) + 845$ (koni struts) = 1220$ brand new , what was the difference ?

http://svx-motorsport-accessories.st...trutsrear.html

http://svx-motorsport-accessories.st...opsprings.html

Thanks

Not the same thing at all... Those are just lowering springs, not coilovers, plus the labor of hacking your strut bodies and emptying them and assembling the strut/coilover assemblies...

Re: Koni/GC Setup

The Motorsport springs are MUCH softer. I found them to be far too weak for autocross, and regret not getting the GC/Koni setup in the first place. I'm running GC/Koni now!

I hate to sound like I'm slamming his hardware, but truth is truth: In my experience, Dayle's springs don't lend to spirited driving. They're not much firmer than stock, and their drop (even with my lighter sprung weight due to the trans swap) is pretty substantial, lending to rubbing issues and hefty axle angles.

The GCs are adjustable to the tune of ~4 inches, allow for corner balancing, are avaliable in heaps of strength combinations (just ask 'em to pop some different ones off the shelf), and that's plenty to justify the additional cost. If you're into suspension tuning by the numbers, you can configure for resonance, rotation (oversteer/understeer), duck and dive, and overall ride for the suspension that you really want the car to have.

My advice? Anything you have to do twice costs more than if you do it right the first time.

I second that as well. My Mychailo springs felt great for the daily drive with improved cornering until my new stock springs blew out.

I then bought the Koni/GC and am glad I finally went that route, however I ended up spending way more because I spent money on the "new" Showa struts. I should have listened to Tom the first time around.

Re: Koni/GC Setup

okay , so , even with the beautiful roads of Québec ( witch are war zones ) , I should go for your setup but, not lower too much. And since that car is an understeer type, I should ajust that setup to a bit of oversteer just to balance it more ? Sounds good so, how much and who takes my order ?

I need a new hood too....

Tim, what new stock springs blew out? You mention "my mychailo springs", did they blow out?

Dave,

Tim's stock struts blew out. Just to clarify, it looks like there was a typo.

Mike,

Does that indicate the stock struts can't handle the higher rated springs? The guy at Motor Sports Warehouse claims running his springs for 3 years, they are rated for more pounds than Mychailo's springs.

Re: Koni/GC Setup

NB: the stock struts have been sitting around on warehouse shelves for years. As a result, their seals have aged to the point that - in many cases - they fail (start leaking) in as little as a number of months after installation . Worst case, they fail soon after the magic "one year warranty" period has ended. I'm a strong advocate of having a dealership install them for you if you go the stock strut route, as then you'll get the install for free when they fail under warranty.

Re: Koni/GC Setup

Sorry... I meant to say struts. The springs were fine but the struts died one by one a month after the one year mark.

Tim being the poster boy for "worst case stock strut failure"
