S/C on the lil old slushbox?

Im looking seriously at the S/C's for sale currently. Unfortunately the cost *ugh* makes for sacrifices as well. I will certainly not be able to afford a M/T for quite some time if I get one of these S/Cs.

My auto runs perfectly strong, and has a cooler in the front. Is it going to blow up on me (spirited driving, but not abusive).

Re: S/C on the lil old slushbox?

I had my AT for 5 months of very spirited driving and it held out just fine. It had been rebuilt about 45k prior though...

Re: S/C on the lil old slushbox?

the slush box is limited in what it can handle on transferring power from the crank to the axles. It will fail, even sooner with a S/C.
Not a big problem tho, just figure out how to rebuild using a master transmission rebuild kit, do it yourself, not that expensive.....

Re: S/C on the lil old slushbox?

Re: S/C on the lil old slushbox?

it all depends on how hot the transmission gets. More power passing through the trans means the amount of heat it will generate will increase proportionally. Watch your temps. Otherwise weak points are.... Front diff, and trasnfer drum. Transfer drum will likely fail first shortly followed by the front diff case

Re: S/C on the lil old slushbox?

hahaha. that WOULD be hilarious. hehehe.

This is a preliminary investigation into the S/C. It has not occured yet, so dont hold your breath on my dead transmission.

I am getting a bit disheartened in my questioning for the S/C though. it seems to me that it might be made more for the 'tuner' type, then some one like me, who just wants it to be installed, and then almost 'forget' about it.

$$ (within reason) not really being the choking factor, but reliability, ease of use, and low maintenance.

Re: S/C on the lil old slushbox?

I think I can finally say that mine is low maint. Then my manifold got all fudged up by our old powder coaters. Making a new manifold and it should be simple after that. Just change the belt and change the blower oil regularly and thats it
