245/40R17 Kumho Ecsta in the snow.
Not the best.

Re: 245/40R17 Kumho Ecsta in the snow.
I'm pretty sure any 245 tire is gonna be bad in the snow....

Yeah but I wanted to see just how bad it could be before I went to buy new frickin wheels and tires. Even though I made it to work and back without any issues I did start going sideways around the corner from my house for apparently no reason, but easily recovered with a little throttle.
The conditions aren't really snowy, just glazed with ice. I have a feeling it will be worse in deeper snow. =D I give these tires a 1/5, which is better than a 0/5. -- Ok, now I remembered why I wanted a thread. Does anyone know the bolt patterns for all the recent Subarus? I figure the best route would be to go to Tirerack, choose a vehicle with the right specs, buy <$100 wheels, have them slap snows on them, and bam ship it up Scotty and it will still be a better deal than what I can get locally. Someone had some Baja Turbo wheels/tires on Clist for $600 but I do not know the wheel specs.

Re: 245/40R17 Kumho Ecsta in the snow.
2005+ STI's and Tribecca's share are pattern.
Go with stock size or narrower, like a 205/60-16

You can't select 16 inch wheels while browsing for the STI or Tribeca. I didn't check on the Tribeca, but I assumed it had a 17 inch stock wheel or bigger.
To be more clear I need a car with a 16 inch wheel and an offset that is not killer. I'd just use the 93 RX7 if I could deal with a +36 but I don't think I can. http://www.tirerack.com/indexA.jsp -- Looks like Baja is the wrong bolt pattern.

Re: 245/40R17 Kumho Ecsta in the snow.
The Tribecca has 18's.
My size recommendation was for stock wheels.

245's usually will just plow and pack the snow in. Did you ever recover your stolen set of stockers?

There was a guy supposedly selling wrapped stock SVX wheels last week or so for $250 but the ad came down the day after I emailed them and I got no response. So now I need new winter wheels. 16 inch is preferred as 16inch tires are much cheaper and blah blah ride quality and all that. I got a quote from a local place for black donut wheels with decent studded tires and it still came to $800. Tires for the wheels I have were $600. I said screw it I'll just buy new decent looking wheels.

Re: 245/40R17 Kumho Ecsta in the snow.
As far as I know the prviously listed cars are the only subies with a 5x114.3 bolt pattern. However, many mazdas, nissans, mitsu's have the right bolt pattern. So you could get some hub rings and use one of those. For example, a 93 or newer accord has 5x114.3 bolt pattern with 45-50 offsets and you can buy a 56.1 to 64.1 set of hubrings for them.

What do I need a hub ring for? 45-50 sounds damn good. That's exactly what I needed to know. (:
2005 Honda Accord Sedan EX V6 16x7.5 $99 (each) Offset: 50mm Backspacing: 6.25" Bolt Pattern: 5-114 Rec. Tire Size:205/60-16 Weight: 18.5lbs. D'oh! Looks like shipping charges have increased almost 200% in the last year.

Re: 245/40R17 Kumho Ecsta in the snow.
Because our cars are hubcentric and not lugcentric.
And the accord probably is aswell (but with a larger hub).

Re: 245/40R17 Kumho Ecsta in the snow.
depending on what kind of Ecsta's you have, they are either high performance summer tires or all-seasons, and not recommended for snow and ice.

Shipping charges from Tirerack jumped from about $90 to over 200 so now I don't know what to do again.
Buy snow tires and risk some mounter newb gitching my wheels or spend a **** load on some ****ty black donuts. OR try to pwn the snow with street tires. Or just drive the truck all winter again.
