Wheel stuff for dummies

Been looking at aftermarket wheels - just need some advice, this is all new to me.

If I go 17" - does this effect the tyre size (used 225/50 on the 16's) or do we go to a lower profile.

How critical is the offset - can we go down to , say 45mm.

If the rim is 8" as opposed to 7 1/2 does the offset effect this/clearance?

On a 17" wheel you'll need to run a lower profile to maintain overall rolling diameter. On my 17" STi wheels I run 245/40/17 size tires. 225/45/17 also works, and is a better/cheaper setup if you're not looking for performance quite so much.

+45 offset is fine. On an 8" wide wheel it will put the outside edge of the tire fairly close to the fender lip, so you should probably stick with the 225/45/17 tires for clearance.

Remember, the SVX has a bolt pattern of 5x114.3, or 5x4.5. Make sure you choose a wheel with this bolt pattern.

cheers

Thanks Chris - exactly what I was after.

Do you by any chance have a pic of your car with the STI rims.? They are hard to find here, but looking at some Volks that will fit.
We are so lucky the the newer Sti's have the same stud patern as us - gives us loads more choices

That's a cool link. Someone on the forum has CX-7 wheels on their SVX but i can't find him. Does anyone have some pics of it?.. they looked madness, I'm considering them!

M3 CSL wheels are what I personally think are the best wheels as far as looks go for the SVX, not sure what the PCD is on them but from what I see, the dimensions are too large in everysingle way.

I tried some 20"s on my car last week for fun. A customer has us put together a wheel/tire package but didn't pick them up for almost a month, so I decided to put them on my car just to see. Looks stupid. With a 235/30/20 tire it looks like a rubber band around a big chrome thing. It was fun to try though

Not bad, but personally I think the RX-8 wheels look the best.
