Questions on a new SVX

Hi,
I'm new to the board and an SVX. I just bought a '92 LS w/76K. I am in the Maryland area and am strongly considering visiting Tom at SVXfiles. My car has the following problems:
1. Rear diff is leaking
2. Guessing Rear bearings are bad also, lots of noise (possible some from tires, but definitely other)
3. Oil leaking from driver side of motor, valve cover?
Any idea how expensive these repairs should be, and how difficult parts may be to get? I figure I'm looking at a couple grand.
Otherwise I love the car and it drives perfectly.

I'm taking it to my mechanic tomorrow to get a full evaluation, but would like someone who knows more about the cars to see it eventually.
Thanks for any help,
Mike

Mike, welcome to the club!

I would recommend SVXFiles for anyone in the area, as his work is great and his pricing is reasonable too!

WARNING WARNING NO NO NO Don't go there. Once he has your car he will not let you leave until it is perfect. He will meticulously go over every crook and cranny, making sure everything is working as it is suppose to. Hell do you want to take your car to someone who actually likes, NO luvs SVXs and plus charge you a reasonable rate. Did i mention you need a PHD just to read the final bill. Every lil bolt and ounce of fluid will be listed with every microsecond of labor for the job also listed. I'm still getting headaches form reading it. I know, no one wants to know exactly what they are being billed for, RIGHT. To each his own ...

Arrow Good Ole Tom

Im up in CT, and plan on taking my 96 POLO to Tom Terrific ASAP, as I to have sprung leaks. I spoke to him a few times on the phone last summer when my own personal mechanic was working on my other 96 Lsi red, and he went above and beyond to help us understand how he does the repair and the right way to do it. If I didnt live 400 miles from him, I would have already left my car with him. Im so looking forward to meeting "Good Ole Tom" no not pawn shop guy on TV uphere but the Real Tom SVXfiles. Im sure I will be delighted with his work from everything, and plan on taking my svx's to him in the future. Hurry up, what are you waiting for, bring it right in, and say hello to "Good Ole Tom"

Arrow Welcome aboard

Mike, congrats on your 92 pearlie. I live 10 minutes away from where you bought your car. If I had known, I would have congratulated you in person, and given scott my personal condolences.

valve covers, front, and rear seal leaks are common, as are the rear wheel bearings going bad..among other things. send OT a message, give him a call...set something up. you wont be disapointed in his work

Can't speak to the differential leak, but the only place you're likely to spend two grand for this work would be a dealership. Parts probably won't be be in stock locally but are readily available.
