Driving it, or driving it hard are different than doing donuts which is a little harder on the car.

It is kind of fun though. I have done a few accidental 180's while auto-X'n. I also accidently ended up in the ditch beside my uncles driveway a last weekend. I tried to take off a tad to fast.

A hand brake turn can have its uses but, can anyone exactly state the reason for for undertaking the maneuver being discussed, other as a means of exhibition? Fun?? I amazed at the indicated prosperity of boy racers.

This thread reinforces my assessment in respect the reasons for so many transmission problems being reported here.

Well trust me this was done in a very nice, very wide parking lot. And hell i was getting sick of my girl freind having all the fun in her 240.

Plus the only thing i can see it having a bad effect on is the center diff and i want to tear this tranny down and toss in some spec-B gears anyway.

Im not saying this should be attempted in an auto or even a 5speed, but all you 6speeders give it a try, it's pretty damn impressive and a lot of fun

Driver Controlled Center Diff. The newer STI's have them, allows the driver to use a little scroll wheel to vary the F/R torque bias. I think you can vary it from 50/50 to 35/65 (F/R), but Tom would know the numbers better than me.

Will be nice to see some SVXi video clips of that!

Donuts cost money...I did some donuts and fwd drifting(no e-brake) before I returned the rental car last month ... I knew I broke the internal belts of one or two of the rear tires. When I returned, I told em everything was fine except the tires...maybe outta balance.

No need reverse, you could drive a fwd car forward to drift, it's not the real rwd drift but the rear-end will swing to the side too . . . . no e-brake.

I tried reverse 360 donuts . . . felt dizzy after awhile but fun

When racing a front wheel drive car, the car can be set up in a drift through corners as follows.

Brake hard after going in more or less over the limit. While under severe braking, apply substantial lock right on the entrance, to force the tail out so as to create an over steering situation. Then using throttle and steering, control the cars attitude, taking into account the necessity to secure maximum traction at the exit of the corner.

Using this technique, a FWD car has advantages in respect of down hill corners, as can be experienced in a rally situation.
