Update

Well, I changed all 6 coils today, fixed the wire I had found cut and spliced at the ECU, and pretty much wiggled wires around all over the place to no success. I guess the only way this problem is getting solved is with some diagnostic equipment and time. I changed everything there is to change to no effect what so ever. I'm simply going to fix the oil leak, A/C and door locks and take it back to her when she gets back in town and she will have to have her guy look at it with a scanner. I swear if I didn't need a select monitor right now there would be 6 for sale.

whats a select monitor gonna do you?? You obviously have a mechanical error and not electrical. did you try and change the cam/crank sensors and check all the wiring??

damn, I have the exact same issues. I guess its time to go see if my spare motor has coilpacks.

Anyone test these with a volt meter to see if the resistance changes? Thats how I found out that it was indeed my SHO's coilpack that dropped a tower and thus was running on 4cyl.

In this case, it was a clogged exhaust... In my case, it was spark leak from the rubber boots on the coil packs... and in other cases it has been a bad coild pack, and finally, if it does it at speed only, it could even be a bad ignition switch... That being said... look to the cheaper solutions for trouble shooting first

Clogged exhaust... hmm that might be likely since it blew clean as a whistle while dropping a cylinder or two on the emissions test. If the cat on one side is almost completely wrecked it sure wouldn't let the bad cylinders tell the sniffer about it.

easy enough to check, and if the stuff is laying around where I worked, just make a new Y-pipe for a bit to see whats up.

Thanks, dreading playing in that engine bay.
