Tranny Whine

Just picked up the car, but have been noticing a tranny whine. The strange thing is that it only whines on deceleration. I can hit the gas and go, but when I get off the gas it starts whining pretty noticeably. I know that the front transfer case was just rebuilt with new gears but its been while since the tranny was rebuilt. Anybody have a similiar problem?

Check the front and rear diff grease...one or the other could be low.

Thanks for the input, it would be great if that was the problem. I will check it out today.

Well, just got the car diagnosed since it wasn't a problem with the fluid. Apparently the fron differential is going bad. Also the rear wheels do not move under their own power (its not in FWD mode). I was also told that there is a noise from the rear of the tranny, possibly a bearing. I'm kind of torn on what to do and whether or not a manual swap is the right choice. I could have it all rebuilt but thats probably gonna be quite a bit of money and it will still be an auto. I may try to buy just a diff and have a tranny shop put that in and fix the bearing.... I am not set up to do any heavy mechanical work so I'm kind of limited as to what I can do.
