The 'special cr*p' in the winshield is a titanium oxide coating. The metal particles in it difuse UV rays from the sun. This keeps the vinyl on the top of the dash from aging and cracking. This coating also difuses microwave signals that are emitted from such devices as cell phones. garage door openers, EZ-pass transponders, and radar guns. That is why these devices don't work well in an SVX. On the plus side, you will be protected from harmful radiation from a nuclear power plant accident in an SVX, if you park facing the plant.

The external EZ-pass transpnder is a black, horizontal rectangle; approximately 5.5"L x 1"D x 1.5"H. It has holes which align with those on the license plate holder for the front bumper. I've had one mounted on my SVX for about 5 years now. It has not given me any problems.

Good Luck.

In the grand state of MA, we have the occasional gate on the fast lane (the logic of this still mystifies me) However, I've noticed that where most people with the windshild-mounted transponder have to stop and wait for the gate, my plate mounted unit is read before I'm fully in the toll area, and the gate is up, and I just have to touch the brakes. One little luxury...

Oh.

So that would explain why my cell phone wouldn't work when I put it on speaker and tossed it on the dash...thereby distracting me so I almost wiped out the toll gate on the way back from Jersey.

Thank goodness we don't have to worry about those out here on the West Coast!

Interesting note: you only have to pay a toll to get out of jersey. NY and Penna share the revenues, but collection is up to NJ.

Would the titanium dioxide coating really help help us SVX owners in the event of WWIII? Will we all be dealing with mutants telling us our windows are 'weird'?

I did find that interesting. Every time I left NJ, I had to pay. I was like "wtf is with this - why should I pay to leave this hellhole?"

Before my accident I ziptied my external tag in the front bumper underneath the license plate so you couldn't see it, but EZ pass still picked it up

I'd just like to know how they were able to cram everything the EZ Pass detectors need into that nice little white box that goes inside the car (you know, where things are usually not white), but the external one somehow needs to be some sort of monstrous car tumor, and mystically has to be BLACK ON MY WHITE CAR WITH A WHITE LICENSE PLATE?!??!

Dangit.

The new Tacoma Narrows bridge has a toll now. But thanks to the advancement in technology, all thats needed is a small sticker on the WS.
And of course, with anything new, they are having problems with it

I have one.

It works fine. You may need to remove the front license plate thing.
But it may bolt right to that too.
The unit it black so what color is your car?
