The president of my alma mater's 'car club' has a black '02 E46 M3 with the 6 spd. His car is still stock and ran the 1/4 in 13.3 @ 106 mph on a 60* day at the track...

They're fast cars, but do horiby in the snow!

That's where the SVX and S60R thrive!

05 legacy 2.5GT. Dont look any further.

My mom is looking for a new car, and I thought that car is what she was looking for. Stopped at the Subaru dealer and she went for a test drive. Just from the passenger seat I would definitely buy one, and she loved it too. Fast as hell and she wasnt even pushing it. Hopefully she buys one so I can drive it from time to time, until I get my degree.

The Legacy is surprisingly upscale. Plus with kids, you're not gonna want a totally premium interior, they'll make short work of it.

May I suggest a Ford Contour SVT? Yeah yeah, it's a ford.... however, it's ford's first world car, designed in Europe, with european ford quality. The regular contour is pretty dull, but the SVT is a pretty great car. Leather recaro seats, an incredible shifter (seriously! One of the best domestic shifters ever!), an extrude honed duratec v6 that puts out 220hp, and suspension that rivals most BMWs. Every review I've ever read has been nothing but praise, and these little cars havea top end of 155mph!!!

Something to consider, especially seeing how nice examples go for 5-8 grand.

Those Contour SVTs are pretty nice cars, but being fwd, it not as fun to race at the drag strip. On the AutoX circuit, it'll probably do pretty well with a spring and shock upgrade, but it's not my cup-o-tea. They are very nice cars though and got excellent reviews from the automotive press!

Guys, the Legacy GT is a nice car and will probably be on my shopping list. I plan on test driving both the S60R and Audi S4, as well as a few others like the Legacy GT and maybe even an STI.

P.S. I know you're a big Porsche fan! The V8 in those 928s is potent!
Maybe a Carrera 4, then?

You know I looked into those and they're sweet! However, they'll be out of my price range for the time being. I like the look of the 996 Porsches (over the 993), and used Carrera 4's run for ~45K+ depending on mileage...

Maybe I'll own one someday though. My wife and I both plan on attending Law School in the coming years. We'll probably both go into corporate.

Yeah, I like the newer ones a lot, too. (I'll keep dreaming.. it'll be a while before I can afford one. ) I sorta like the classic look of the older 964 C4s, which are more reasonably priced, but I've never had the chance to drive one. Oh well. Then you'd also get into the problem of a loan on a 1993 or earlier car you mentioned before.
