Stock tires should be 39 front, 36 rear. According to my shops Alignment rack.

Wow! 500 miles?! I'm getting about 280-320 depending on how much highway driving I do...

In the other thread, you said that you think you are running rich. This kind of mileage is def not possible if you are running rich.

On my best tank, where I did 90% highway driving, I got just a hair over 400 miles. That's some impressive fuel economy you have...

Find a tractor trailer heading the same way and just draft behind the guy the whole way! Should raise your fuel economy by at least 2mpg...

Back to the original post . . .

My check engine light IS on due to VSS2 being broken. Been on for about 2 months. I average 100-150 miles per tank now, and it keeps getting worse. New spark plugs and air filter as of 4 months ago, the throttle bodies shouldn't make a difference if they're a little dirty, seeing as how they flow so much, but mine are pretty clean. I drive the car pretty conservitively as i'm running crappy Just Tires on-special tires ($374 out the door with road hazard) and have a huge crack across my windshield.

You need to get your car looked at ASAP. 100-150 miles per tank is extremely low! That's like under 10mpg?!

I'm not familiar with all the different part names for the SVX - what is the VSS2 that's broken on your car? Is it related to the AWD drivetrain or the enigne?

When my '92 was newer, I traveled I-80 from Reno to Modesto, California and back every other week. I never drove for mileage, generally cruising 75-85 mph or more through the Sierra's. I would look for fuel around 400 miles. I always tried to fill with Nevada gas.

I don't know when it started, but the fuel in California is about 25% non-combustible additive. No way can we achieve great mileage with CA gas. And expensive, just paid $2.49 for premium at Chevron.

Wouldn't it be great if someone would tune our cars to run on 87 unleaded? I would buy that! Only slight power gains were realized by the recent tuning test in Florida with premium, so perhaps by adding fuel to the mix, two things could be accomplished; better drivability AND the use of 87 octane. Talk about a significant product for SVX, everybody would interested if it were possible. I doubt we would lose much if anything in performance. It would be interesting to see if richer mixtures would allow reg unleaded without freaking out the knock sensors.

The new Road and Track has a giant test, 7 sedans, all six-cylinder cars. The Cad CTS has 10.2:1 compression, makes 255 hp at 6200 rpm with 3.6 liters AND IS TUNED FOR 87 UNLEADED. The BMW530i runs a smaller bore with 8.8:1 compression and is tuned for premium. All the cars except the Caddy run premium.

My advice, those going to Reno for the meet, remember to fuel on the Nevada side of Lake Tahoe.

i used to get 19 mpg pretty consistantly. recently i had a couple problems with the PCV valve and exhaust... now everythings fixed, but my gas mileage hasn't improved back up to the 19 mpgs. i do mostly city, with a very noticeable increase when i drive it strictly highway (pulled 28 mpgs before the pcv valve stuff on a road trip before)... i think i need to replace the spark plugs. can't think of anything else thats making it be that bad.
