Wanted SVX in WA/OR

I'm looking for a new winter car, and I'm very intrigued by the SVX. I don't really want to spend over 5k, but might consider if more. So please let me know if you know of any for sale.

Thanks

Well, one guy in your area is hoarding them all, so I doubt if you'll find one.

Just kidding, but, Earl Steele DID have to go to various parts of the country to collect his. Perhaps you'll have better luck finding something close to home. Try autotrader.com or, go to Joe Spitz's SVX page and look in his special SVX classifieds.

Bon Chance!

There are usually several for sale in the Seattle PI or the Seattle Times. The classifieds sections of both papers are online. The autotrader online is another good place to look.

Oooops - Forgot to do this -

Welcome to the site ChrisR. I hope we can find you a car so you can attend some of the meets. Watch the NW forum for meets, and you could come see some of the cars and we could give you some advice about them. If you do find one, let me know, and maybe I could help you check it out before you buy it so you don't end up with a lemon. Good luck on the search. I will let you know if I find one for sale that looks good.

I have found one in the autotrader magazine. It's in Kirkland, going to look at it tomorrow I hope. Although I'm a little weary, since it is only $2900 OBO. I will also check around in the PI & Times classifieds.
And ensteele, quick hogging them all, I want one!

A few quick questions:
How hard is maitinence? I have heard you have to pull the engine to replace a spark plug?

How long to tranny's normally last, and how much to rebuild one?

Thanks for the help.

Chris

Look in the How-To Documents (top right hand side of page) for how tos. The plugs are not the easiest to change, but you can do it without pulling the engine.

Trannys will last a long time if you have a good one to start with and get a filter and cooler on the car asap. To rebuild, figure around $2,500 to $3,000. Some members put 5 speeds in the svx, but not everyone wants one. Buy once, don't buy the first one that comes along. I have traveled all over the US to get mine. I look for good ones that are inexpensive, not cheap ones. You don't want to get a money pit! There are several members who have done that. Let me know if you need any other advice. I am more than happy to help you. Good luck.

I've got 90k on my '95, and it works perfectly, but I'm not expecting it to last more than 120k. Just a feeling based on what I've read here.

Some common problem areas with these cars:

1) Bad rear wheel bearings
2) Crappy brakes
3) Drooping sunvisors
4) Power steering fluid leaks

If you have tools and a jack, you can fix any of these.

If the car hasn't been maintained, then there are things like timing belts that are going to need replacing soon.

from the Yahoo digest (no personal knowledge):

Subject: Selling my teal 92

Well, I need to sell my favorite car I have ever owned. 1992 Teal, Sunroof, leather, all wheel drive, etc. etc. You know what they all came with. This has the spoiler, Tires are a week old. There are a few small rock chips on the hood. Valve/head job last month, New tranny and trans cooler 6 months ago. Enterior is perfect with the excption of wear lines showing on the drivers seat, there are no holes or splits. New radiator last month, replaced steering rack and wheel bearing 3 months ago. There is one very small dent on the back left quarter panel from a friendly lady in a parking lot. It could easly be removed by a paintless repair person. I have had this done on other vehicles and this is an easy cheap fix. There is nothing that doesn't work. The air conditioner was tested, serviced and filled this summer. Windshield is new this year. I drive about 2000 miles a week and this is not the car for that kind of use. It has 151,000 miles on it. Almost all are freeway. If I didn't have to drive so much I would keep it forever. I would like to get about $5,500 for the car and will arrange shipping to where ever you wish. I have over $10,000 in reciepts I put in it to get it into great driving condition. I have to sell it, so please make any offers, I will consider them all. Tim

Just remember - the cheapest is not always the best one to buy! It may cost you more in the long run. Parts are not cheap. One that costs $1,000 more than another, may have several thousands less in maintenance cost in the short term. Good luck and keep us informed.
