I love it, subaru comes out with a new car, and the first thing you can think about is how to take it apart and put it's internals in the svx. Nice car though.

Maybe I'm not seeing the EXIGA correctly. To me it looks like a stretched Toyota Matrix/Pontiac Vibe in Subaru clothing.

Currently our 2007 Outback XT wagon gets 19-22 mpg. It has the turbo 2.5L engine and 5-speed auto tranny. The milage is disappointing.
Our old '97 Outback wagon got 22-28 mpg with a NA 2.5L engine and 4-speed auto. I know that I've gained weight since we got the old wagon but not enough to account for the mpg difference.

Why does Subaru always show there proposed cars in some irridescent orange color (BAJA) and then they do not have an orange color for the production models, even as an extra cost option.?

They definitely need to bring the new turbo diesel over here...as they're getting 50mpg out of an Outback with it!
Ought to get 60 in an Impreza platform...

The Toyota Matrix/Voltz thing you mention is described as a Sporty Hatchback, and is based on the Corolla platform, very much a smaller vehicle.

This Exiga is described as a Wagon, and seems to be to be a variant of the Legacy Estate, probably based on your Outback platform.

Having had a look at the concept car photos in the 40th Tokyo show, I want one!!

http://www.autoblog.com/photos/subar...oncept/456707/

If they put the turbodiesel engine in that thing, it will sell by the shipload over here. I would prefer the turbopetrol, but I'll take either.

Joe,

Thanks for the autoshow photos. Over here the Toyota Matrix is a small hatchback that seems to fit a Corolla size chasis. That seems to be the same size as this Exiga.

Chris,

I dislike "pinball machine" dash boards.

I dunno Alan?

You sell into the market what the market wants. That's a good strategy for not losing money or staying in business.

If there is a marketing rationale for the Exiga it would have to be the seven seater configuration.

Families with small children [and soccer moms too ] want seven seats because they can leave the child seats bolted in, and still have room for three or four adults when going to the soccer matches.

That's a photochopped 2008 or 2009 Accord coupe.

Now the real important question: Will this come to the USDM, or will it just be JDM/Euro?

there is already a 7-seat option for the Tribeca. i don't remember there being a demand for a 7-seater station wagon.

That was then. This is now. Presumably they are learning, I don't hear any rumours of a new SVX.

Ah, I get it. You are thinking only of your local market, not the global picture. Your local market is unique because you have the oil industry dictating the cost of gasoline taxes at the highest levels in your government, ergo, you have the cheapest gasoline costs in the known world outside of the gulf states.

Subaru/Fuji has for years been thinking the same way, using the USA as their biggest market to dictate what they design, and so have only this year come up with a turbo diesel in their line up. Long after they have lost their market share in Europe.

Over here all Subarus are tainted with the gas guzzler label, so nobody will buy them new as they lose too much second hand value. I have more SVXs in my back yard than there are Tribecas on the road in Ireland. Anybody wants a vehicle that size will buy a diesel Mercedes or Audi Q7.

They would sell all the turbo diesel 7-seater wagons they could make on this side of the pond. That is what the people desire.
