Braking Issues After Replacing Lines/Pads/Rotors

On Friday a friend and I got the Race Concepts lines & rotors and Axxis brake pads installed on my car. Along with the parts swap, we replaced the brake fluid with the ATE Super Blue fluid.

We bled the lines 3 separate times, and by the 2nd and 3rd attempts, there seemed to be no air coming out. However, when I apply the brakes, the pedal goes about half way to the floor before the pads really start grabbing. If I let up a little bit and pump again, it seems the pedal response is back to how it used to be. But by the next time I go to stop, its the same routine.

Does anyone have any ideas what might be wrong? My friend is a mechanic who has worked on cars his whole life... I would be surprised if we did this one wrong? He suggested braking hard a handful of times to try to work anything else out of the system, but that doesn't seem to be helping.

HELP!

Yes, there is a sequence to do it. I think the way Tom described is the order that I have seen before.

I don't believe there was any rhyme or reason to how we did it... Maybe the 4th time will be the charm!

As always, thanks for the info!

aren't you supposed to bleed the abs controller as well?

Regarding Tom's point, I checked with my friend, we did bleed them in that order. I guess I wasn't paying that close attention

I'm not sure, however, about bleeding the ABS system. Can anyone expand further on this thought?

if you are bleeding from the wheels, it should bleed the ABS as well... Might as well bleed the ABS first then go do it from the wheels too

I will give that a shot. My friend has some time later on in the week for us to play around with it some more. I will check back in with an update in a few days!

I guess the 4th time was the charm... we bled them again today with much more success! I finally got a real feel for how this kit does and I must say, it was money VERY well spent!

I'm not sure how the svx is, but my explorer with abs requires a power-bleeder, special machine thing that not every shop has. We blead it like 10 times before calling a dealership and asking. If the SVX requires it, that kinda sucks, if anyone knows for sure it would be good info to know.

We didn't use one on my car. I will do some more driving with it this week and see if any more glitches seem to show up. Both of us test drove it and things seemed 1000x times better than they were previously. He said some cars are just stubborn... he worked on a BMW last week that did the same thing.

If you read the Subaru shop manual for the SVX it says you should bleed the ABS box first (two bleeders on the box), then go to the passenger's side rear wheel cylinder, etc.
