legacy and svx same oil filters?

So I went to the suby dealer the other day and picked up an oil filter for my mothers 97 subaru legacy L wagon and my svx. I didn't pay much attention till I brought them home and examined them. They seem to be exactly the same. Did the service guy give me the wrong oil filter for the svx? OR are the oil filters suppose to be the same? thanks

Oil filters

You "can" use the Legacy filter on the SVX, but the parts department probably didnt want to stock space on the self for an uncommon SVX filter. I honestly do not know the difference, but there are different part numbers. My dealsership atually carries the SVX filter because I buy them all the time. If you go to a quickie type lube shop, you will get the same thing, a Legacy filter. Another reason why I keep a spare factory SVX filter in the trunk.

Oil Filters

I was wondering. The SVX filter is tiny for a six cylinder with almost 7 qts. Most filter mfgrs have a larger filter with the same thread and seal. There's plenty of room. Of course, nothing beats frequent O/C. Might be worth researching. (bigger is better)

keep one thing in mind

I know that the factory filter has a check valve system in it to help prevent dry starts. This is something that most aftermarket filter companies short out of the piture to cut costs. Not something I want to go without.

Okay I have been using Fram PH3593A oil fliters for the 91 Legacy, 97 OBS and 92 SVX.

WHAT IS THE PART NUMBER FOR THE SVX FILTER? Now that I think about it I never got an SVX filter from the Dealer.

It's always been my understanding that they use the same filters.
