Help Needed Asap
Alright i have a wrx 5spd and have had it in for about 5 months...Ever since install sometimes you would have to repeatedly turn the key to get the car to start while emitting a clicking sound then it would start...Last week when coming to my car after going to a store the car would not start, i got it running by roll starting it. Well i had the starter tested and they said it was no good so i got another one and just put it on there and still to no avail the car wont start. Its getting power all the way to the back of the new starter and the ground is grounded nice and tight where it connects to the engine..I checked the Neutral Safety Switch and the wires are still together and getting power when the key is turned to the on position. When you try to start the car nothing at all happens, no click no light flicker other then the clock going out every time you turn the key to start position which makes me think its not the ignition. If any of you have any suggestions as to where to start looking that would be greatly appreciated. I've already checked all the fuses and they checked out fine. I was wondering do we have a starter solenoid??OR is it on the starter itself??? I tried to jump the starter with a screwdriver but all it did was turn it didn't engage with the flywheel. Sorry bout the length i just need to get my car in the garage before this direct hit from charlie gets here tomorrow

Looks like you've checked the obvious trouble spots. The clock going out would seem to indicate a short somewhere. The solenoid should be on the starter. Have you tried to find a starter "relay?" Have you checked the fusible link? Of course, if that were the case, the lights nor anything else electronic would work.

Sounds just how my old VW bug used to behave when the starter solenoid failed. It would usually work ok when the engine was cold, but after the engine warmed up (and consequently the starter), the solenoid would stop working, and I would just hear the click sound when turning the key to "start". I used to always park it on hills or at least shallow slopes so I could easily push start it. :-)))) The solenoid is that small piggyback housing on the starter.
But since you are seeing the same problem with two different starters, it could be something else. The battery could be near the end of its life. Have you tried using a different battery? Could also be a grounding issue as you suspected. Have you checked the resistance between the ground on the starter and the ground on battery?

Battery and grounds, and fusible links. I found the fusible link between the engine and the firewall to be melted and virtually destroyed recently.
Clean your battery terminals and the connections and have the battery checked. Todd

I always thought that if the fusible link went you had NOTHING working electrical - not true?

fixed it
It was the little prong that the wire attaches to with the clip that is inside a protective sleeve. I couldnt figure out where it went so i looked at the old svx starter and found the prong to be there and low and behole the wrx had the same one, once that was hooked up it fired right up Just in time i might add i in evacuation zone A atleast i can make sure the svx is safe

that last post is confusing.
Where is this prong/clip? I had a problem like this as well and resolved it by adding a relay to direct power directly from the battery to the starter bypassing the ignition. Other people have done this as well.

"Patience" was beginning to show signs of the same, but, when my NSS was replaced, there were no more problems. As for the "prong clip," I know exactly what he's talking about. It's the connector that goes from the ignition switch to the starter. It's covered in a rubber boot. I had to replace the one on the Twin due to corrosion from it's first life as a New York car.

Don't count this in unless your already having head gasket problems But my integra was doing that because of water getting into the cylinders. (hydrolock?)
