advise needed

In december of 2002 I had a new diff put in my car, after I got it home I got a check engine light. I figured no big deal I got it occassionaly due to a borderline bad o2. Now I look back and relize it was my speedo gear I've only put a few hundred miles on the car since then because I bought a beater so I would not have to put the SVX through the rigors of being a daily driver while I restored it. I don't make a lot of $ but everything I have left over from bills goes into it. The diff had a 12 month warranty on it but it was never driven. I took it back to get the gear replaced and they told me 600 bucks! This thing already cost me $1,900 and they want another $600 that sucks. These are the things that the speedo gear effects: speed sensitive steering, torque split, cruise control, speedometer, odometer and mabey a cooling fan prob. I think they should come clean and fix it, they gave me a bad diff! Any advise on how I could approach this would be appreciated.

If the warranty is expired, you can't really do much but complain. Your reciept will have the mileage of the vehicle in '02, and they can look at the current mileage, but it's totally up to them if they want to charge you or not.

If you can convince them they gave you a bad part, and it's obvious because very little miles were put on it, maybe youcan reach an agreement, because it's also possible it was installed incorrectly.

This is one of those cases i would get a second opinion from somewhere I trust.

Well I spoke to the mechanic and it's going back in on mon. I said $600 was a little too high and I'm still making payments on the $1,900 loan from the 1st time it was there. He said he would take it easy on me, so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.
