emmissions
If you disconnect the EGR (exhaust gas recirculation)the engine will not receive pre-burnt heated gasses to lean out the mixture. As I recall this only happens during deceleration, and part throttle cruising.

Emission gear.
All of the emission gear does not operate, when the throttle is floored for power, they are turned off. So you would not gain anything by removing them.
When crusing on a part throttle, the EGR actually helps to lower the combustion chamber temps. It allows burnt, inert, gas to inter the combustion chamber, so that there is less combustable charge in there. This lowers the temps. It doesn't cause it to run lean. A good thing. Harvey.

On both svxii that I have removed the intake I have found that the EGR pipe and the hole on the manifold it connects to were plugged up very badly with what I call thick grimy tar - almost like creosote.
The hole left was so small I cant imagine much if any airflow was getting through there. I can only imagine what the rest of the pipe beyond where you can see could look like. I had to use intake cleaner and a small screwdriver and actually scrape the gunk out of there. I wonder whether the EGR is doing much of anything in this condition.
