Missing Cover?
Hey all. Haven't posted in a while (been busy). I've been keeping up on what's going on here though. Anyway, I've got a question about the underside of the engine/transaxle of my '96 LSi. I noticed a small drop of oil on the floor under the car the other day (the oil was nothing, not important). I looked closely under the car and noticed that you can see the cranking gear from the starter! It's open. I also noticed that it looks like there are bolt holes where a cover should be over this gear. Is that correct? Should it have a cover or is it exposed like that?
Thanks, -joe- |

You mean that you can see the gear teeth on the torque converter(which is what the starter engages into), kind of behind the steering rack? if so, that's normal, there isn't a cover on it, all Subarus are like that, so nothing to worry about.

joe not to freak you out or anything.....
i too had just a few little drops of oil.......then BOOM! camshaft seals and crank shaft seals and $1200 repair bill. find out where the oil is leaking from and get it fixed immediately. just a word of warning.
