keyless entry

When you hit the keyless entry its supposed to beep once to lock twice to unlock right

well mine makes the horn sputter if that makes sense but it still locks. And you have to be within like 5 feet of the car for it to work. I replaced the battery, and the lady said she had never seen anything like it, there was 8 small batterys lined up but even after replacing it it still only works close up


Anyone else had this problim or is that just how this keyless entry system works cause on my last car you could be like 50 feet away and it would unlock.
