Doors Freeze Shut
Anyone have this problem? Whenver I wash my car in the winter, the next day the doors are always frozen solid. I can lift the handle fine, but hte door itself is frozen shut. One time I had to crawl in the trunk. :\
Anybody know any fixes? - Rob |

I had this problem occasionally, and while I never tried any solutions I did have a workaround.
Whenever my doors froze shut (and I know what you mean - those suckers feel welded when they do), I'd take off my gloves and pry the door's weather stripping away from the roof and down the a-pillar. It doesn't take long and it doesn't hurt anything - it just gives you a start. But I think if you treated the stripping with some kind of silicone it would stop doing this. Just a theory - as I said, I never actually tried to solve the problem...

This topic came up last winter also and the solution most used was treat the weather stripping with silicon. It made it hard for the ice to grab onto anything.

Edit: I actually found this nice description of the difference between the two: http://www.silicone-review.gov.uk/silicone/

get a remote start....and leave the heat on in your car, so when you start the car and it warms up, the doors release

So I pull into the gas station the other day, fuel up' lock the doors because the company lap top is on the passenger seat. Come back out and the locks are frosen. Go back into the gas bar to get some lock deicer but they don't have any. I saunter over to the coffee machine and get a cup of hot water from the tea section. Back out to the car, push the key in as far as it will go and pour some hot water over it. One second later and I am in.

A few days ago we had a super cold snap here in Seattle where it didnt get over freezing for about 3 days & day 2 I went out & the doors where frozen shut but not to bad ( the LOUD cracking sound kinda scared me but I laughed & started her up with the spare key & locked her up & went in for coffee while I watched her warm up......
15 min later I go out & find A-- the remote locks dont work with the car running( doh) & B----My locks are so frozen the key wont even go in.. took about 5 min to get the key in & another 5 to get it to turn ..Sprayed a little Pro-Long & then some grafite into the locks later that day & there fine now lol

Here's my tip about washing your car in the winter time: As soon as you finish washing it, pull it into the garage and let it dry over night.

I seem to have a problem with the windows. After a snow/freeze and thawing from the defrost, the window will freeze to the frame portion. Rather annoying when you're at the drive up ATM...
