Re: 92 svx resurrection

The vacuum lines and fuel lines were pretty badly severed when the motor was ripped, so after replacing all those, the only thing holding up the swap is the timing belt, slow shipping, water pump, and radiator

Re: 92 svx resurrection

Is this the pearlie that was sitting at a dealership after a diagnosis of a spun bearing?

IF so, and even if not, and it is another car, NICE SAVE!

it was.

The car lives, though the engine required extensive surgery including all new vacuum lines, fuel lines, repairs to the fuel rail, and the power steering still needs minor work.

The radiator is holding things up. UPS screwed up the shipping and sent it back to the sender, who sent it out again. Hopefully it gets here in time next week, because after next week, Driveablity lab ends, and no one will be able to work on the car.

So far, not including the engine and radiator, the swap has cost $234.

Re: 92 svx resurrection

I just resurrected my 92, after getting another care (MB 300CE) and sticking the SVX into a garage with a cover on it. The transmission was grumbling a bot, and I thought I'd have to get (yet) another.

Surprise .. tranny is fine. New MAF, new valve covers, and an ECU and TCU from ECUtune, and I am one happy camper. Hard to believe this, but it runs like new, and better than when I obtained the car.

I am glad I took the time and spent the $$

Re: 92 svx resurrection

Car's done, still needs a few things here and there, but the swap is done. Grand total, including engine and radiator, $912.54.

Has a vacuum leak on the intake manifold, power steering leaks bad, and the right front rotor probably needs replacing.

Re: 92 svx resurrection

Newly discovered problems-

Thermostat stuck

Front Differential might be making noise

RF brake pads ground down to bare metal

RF rotor worn beyond machining spec

Intake manifold gasket

Power steering leak still hasn't been tracked down.

why did I buy this car...

Re: 92 svx resurrection

no, I bought it because it looked cool and had no rust, If I knew how unreliable it was going to be, I'd have bought used volvo in california and drove it back to new york...in fact...that's exactly what I think i'm going to do. or maybe an '82 Land Cruiser....

Re: 92 svx resurrection

Sorry to hear of new problems with your SVX, these cars can be daily drivers, but they make better sunday drivers or second cars, that way they can be worked on in as nessasary. Most used cars will need something fixed after purchase and as time goes on, the SVX comes with awesome good looks and some maintaining as does any 18 year old car, the trouble is its hard to do on a tight budget, hope things work out to your liking and you find a really nice replacement for your SVX...............G

Mine goes 200 miles every weekday with only a battery change other than the problems I bought it with (one wheel bearing, pads/rotors, tires and a radiator and the battery probably had one dead cell then anyway). About 16k miles since January. I'd rather dump mainenance money into the SVX then burn the value of a new car.
