Re: could a maf senor not allow my svx to idle

the maf is a common problem for idle and stall problems at low rpm, another thing to check is vacuum leaks. you can try unplugging the maf to see if the problem changes, a lot of the time you can get away with just cleaning and re-soldering the maf sensor, there is a good document in the how to section.

Re: could a maf senor not allow my svx to idle

I put modified my intake and once in a while the piping comes out of the coupler, problem I plan on fixing just isnt enough of a worry to me at the moment, when it does the engine dies, right now. You can restart but it dies immediately soon as the ecm sees there is no air flow.

"You can try unplugging the maf to see if the problem changes".

It won't run without the MAF connected, that's for sure.

Maybe or maybe not. Is your check engine light on?

Some other possibilities include but are not limited to:

Bad AACV
Misfiring cylinder(s)
Vacuum leak
EGR valve stuck open
Crappy gas
Rat living in your airbox
Just a bad dream you are having, you'll wake soon.

You should be able to start the engine with the MAF disconnected. When the ECU detects no MAF signal, it tries to guess the airflow based on RPM and Throttle position. It works on my car, I've tried it.

As b3lha said, it should run without the MAF sensor connected. In fact, when I had a cam sensor issue, with the MAF connected (was thought to be causing issues based on symptoms) it wouldn't run well, bog and die if the idle dropped too low as well as not rev above 2500 RPM in gear or not in gear. MAF unplugged, revved just fine, drove fine, and did not die. Which led us to think the MAF was bad even more until a different MAF had same symptoms and then we pulled out the Select Monitor.

??? Actually either a bad Aux Air Control Valve or bad Bypass Air Control Valve could do this..... our car doesnt have an "Idle air control valve"

The corrector stands corrected!! Should have gone to the manual instead of relying on this feeble old memory.
