Locked up Diff in Reverse??

I have a '94 LSi in good condition other than a slightly sick transmission (1/2hard shift and possible slight slip in 3).

I have a new problem!

When I reverse the car with the wheels on fairly full lock, I sometimes get a bump/clunk from the front wheel area. Although I can't physically see what's happening (i'm in the car driving!), I'm 100% sure that the tires are skipping sideways across the asphalt rather than rotating smoothly at different speeds. I know the SVX has a sophisticated AWD system, but it acts in reverse and full lock as if it has a fully locked up 4x4 system. I had a '71 Suburban and when all the diffs were locked, I had a very similar sensation (I know it's a no-no to drive in lock-up on a hard surface), but I hope my description of the symptoms might help someone identify the problem -- diff, transmission or related to the repairs/changes below??

More Info -- I had my old worn out mismatched (front-to-rear) summer tires re-installed (new ones on order!!) and the front right wheel bearing and sway bar links replaced recently, and it was only AFTER this that I noticed the problem. Coincidence?? Doesn't seem like these repairs/changes could cause the symptoms I'm experiencing.

Can anyone out there offer a diagnose, test, suggestion and and suggestions for a cure??

Thanks, Mike

'94 LSi Barcelona Red with 80K miles and slightly sick tranny

Re: Locked up Diff in Reverse??

Still a problem though maybe getting better, but figure 8's in reverse still show symptoms

This is your big problem Hopefully you haven't fully fried your transfer clutch. Mismatched tires or tires of varying tread depth are a big no-no...
