Blinking Power Light Question

My Power light blinks around 16 times when I start the car (92 SVX). I just had the transmission rebuilt (which I know comes as a surprise to everyone) - the light blinked right before I had it rebuilt, and it still blinks. The mechanic that rebuilt the transmission said that he's aware that its blinking, and his technical people say that the blinking means that the #14 fuse in fusebox 17 is bad. He checked ALL the fuses and they are fine. Other than the blinking light, the transmission shifts fine. So my question is, does anyone know why it might be blinking, and where is fusebox 17, so I can check fuse #14 myself. Thanks.

Check out the How To Document section (which has been beautifully updated!) http://www.subaru-svx.net/forum/showthread.php?t=54004
if your power light is blinking 14 times it has nothing to do with fuses but shift solenoid 2 according to the code list. Sounds like you need to take it back under warranty and have them correct it but then again if they can't diagnose the codes for the trans maybe thats not a good idea... hmm conundrum..

Thats some BS right there....... if your warranty is good for other shops, go somewhere else.....

If its only thru that shop, make sure he takes care of the solenoid problem and if he gives you the runaround about fusebox 17 then tell him you can settle it in small claims.

Re: Blinking Power Light Question

Sowise, reread his post, He did not say that he got a code #14 but that he was told fuse # 14 was bad.

The 16 flashes of the power light on start up means that there is a transmission code. You will need to check the code (process isn't brain science) and report back with your findings.

Here is a link with the PDF on how to check both current codes as well as stored codes. I would suggest you check both.

I know of two fuse boxes in the SVX. I have not come across the other 15 so far...

Re: Blinking Power Light Question

I think what is going on here is, the shop is saying that they think there is a stored code, from before the box was rebuilt. They are saying to clear the old codes by pulling fuse No14 out for 1 minute.

Harvey.

Wow, I think I am having reading problems or ADD or something. Thanks Nate, either way I though I don't think it would point to a fuse #14 in fusebox 17 is bad... (kinda not sure what they mean on that one) but in the trans diagnostics it jumps from code 15 to 21. I would hope he could recheck his fault code to verify, reset then recheck again to make sure. (possible one long flash 5 short code 15? need to know for sure how many long flashes vs short flashes though)

Sorry about the misreading it is as annoying and frustrating to me that I do it as it is to you guys I am sure.

Don't worry about it. Happens to us all. Was just pointing it out as all as So-cal made a point based off of your post as well as the OP. Just helping clear things up. Hopefully he is able to check the code and get back to us with whatever it may be.

Re: Blinking Power Light Question

I'm reluctant to think that the transmission has a problem which is throwing the error code, only because the transmission shifts fine (I've driven a couple of hundred miles so far). I've had other cars into the same shop (they replaced the tranny in my original 92 SVX about 12 years ago) and they do good work. When i got the car back I had to reprogram the radio stations so I assume at some point during the repair, they had disconnected the battery. This would have the same effect as pulling the #14 fuse for 10 minutes, wouldn't it?

Could it be a transmission control module issue?

Just because it is shifting fine, doesn't mean that it won't throw a code. There are other electronics that factor into the transmission unit itself and so you need to check what the code is.
