So what works? And a possible step by step?

My local wrecking yard has a few legacy awd 5spd's and im wondering what years bolt in and what other cars transmissions work for a 5spd swap. PLUS the idiots guide to what other mods and things ill need to prepare for in doing a 5spd swap and advice that works is helpful

Thanks All

Re: So what works? And a possible step by step?

ok so that was very vague and relatively unhelpful, the link to step by step instructions was great, but the info on what year cars to check was not there. if anyone else can help with a list of cars to pillage that would be helpful (espically the best and worst years and models) im seeing that the 5speed swap dosnt help bring in much more $$$ when done also

FS: 1995 SVX - 5 Speed - Pics & Video Inside! *** Reduced to $3,900 *** (Multi-page thread 1 2)

so is all the effort really worth it?

What year transmissions has been covered numerous times and that is why one of the links is to the search... All you have to do is type in manual transmission and look through a few threads and you will be able to find all the info you need

Is it possible to use a 1,8L donor car, And upgrade the transmission(and reardiff) to 2,2L is this possible or must you also have legacy 2,2L donorcar also?

You can use any MT from ANY EJ series engine as long as it is AWD (unless you want FWD). It is that simple people

I have heard you can use transmission from Legacy, Impreza, Forester.
Not Justy or L-series. so all from 1990 legacy and out i think.

Ej is the 1.8, 2.0, 2.2, 2.5. All of these engines have been used from 1990+ in legacys, imprezzas, foresters, and bajas.

hi you have to make sure you match the the final drive,if you have switched to 4.44 theres very few 5sp that match that,i used a 02 wrx because it is 3.54 and was built for the 230 hp ,there are kits from smallcar.com that give you the hardware ,like the spacer for the drive shaft and the front mounts
all the trannys bolt up svx 4 bolt
