Some guy on SVXWorldFourms had a great idea. I don't have the thread though. There's more pictures, but I lost 'em.

There is no need to replace the plastic piece. The factory logos are silk screened on and can be removed with rubbing alcohol. You can have a local sign shop cut viny lettering of your choice as a replacement.

I already talked to him about how he did it this is litterally a 6 dollar mod, all he did was get some replacement mirror sheet from wallyworld (aka walmart) and dremel out the shape(it's a big sheet so you can make mistakes or try it a few times or make multiple), they are self adhesive and I think it looks awesome!
here's his black SVX with it on.

I'm personally going to be doing this to my svx, I already talked to him about it he's cool with other people copying his idea. I'm probably going to clear my tail lights remove the logo, smoke my tail lights(except the reverse) then add this on the top in the middle.

I think he has the same rims as me too lol...

A couple things about using inkjet transparencies. First you'd need to clearcoat the printing. If the tailbar draws ANY dampness the ink will run. Testors makes a clear specifically for inkjet ink (on decals) It's available at your local hobby shop. Second, to attach the transparency, you could use the clear 5min epoxy. Careful application of it would be invisible.

Re: Tailbar! Subaru, Alcyone switch? No, not THAT one.

Lighting up just the letters would be fairly easy. Add a silver mask with open areas for the lettering. Then add in a couple of the small dashboard illumination bulbs behind it. During the day, the bar would be bright, the letters dark, at night the letters bright, the bar dark.

I was wondering if he had his tail lights smoked as the corners don't look yellow from this picture at least. How do you do that? I saw one in person once where they were smoked black and it looked okay from a distance, if a little too dark. But up close it was just some spray on the outside of the lens and looked/felt "cheap".

Re: Tailbar! Subaru, Alcyone switch? No, not THAT one.

If you wanted to tone down the turn signals in the rear, you could paint them with a clear red from inside. Duplicolor makes a system meant to replicate an anodized finish. The red in that system would work well. Also, from the hobby shop one could get either Testors, or Tamiya's clear red. The signal would still light up orangeish. Using an amber bulb would enhance this.
If you want to "smoke" your tails, this is the way to go as well....from the inside.

If you smoke the lights they look cheap if you don't clear coat them and buff them, I've noticed that too, I've seen some that look really cheap and gross and others that look really clean and nice.
