Re: Subaru Turbo Diesel
just an FYI: VW has their new diesel set for delivery in Aug. with demo units at some dealers. I got a call to come and test drive one...gonna go next week.
Subaru better get that thing here (consider a 5 speed too) or they are going to miss the boat again.

Re: Subaru Turbo Diesel
I read another article the other day (which unfortunately i didn't save the link to) but it said in 2010 subaru was planning to expand the diesel to a 6 cylinder model that would be capable of 300 bhp. It didn't say if it was a turbo model as well or not. In fact it didn't say anything more than what i just stated, but i thought it was interesting. I've been kicking around the idea of putting the turbo 4 diesel in my SVX instead of putting a supercharger on it. If they're coming out with a 6 cylinder one, i'll wait for that
How feasible is it to swap the EG33 for a diesel? I know i'd have to replace a lot more than the enging (like the fuel tank, etc) Any thoughts anyone? Ray

Re: Subaru Turbo Diesel
Sorry to drag this thread back from the dead........ but I recently attended the London Motorshow and there was a sectioned 4 cylinder Diesel unit on the Subaru stand.
Interestingly enough externally it looks exactly the same as the petrol version, although the particulate filter fits beneath and to the front of the engine. The single turbo is on one side with the exhaust from the other bank crossing under the block. The cams appear to have separate chains for each bank, so a bit like the earlier engines with separate belts with a double row crank pulley. The IC is top mounted like the petrol units and the inlet system looks the same. The pistons are suitably diesel-like with a strong looking ringlands and a fairly typical dished crown/swirl chamber with cental "pip". I didn't get a good look at the injector arrangement or any of the more "in depth" features but I thought I'd share !! Unfortunatly my ancient Olympus C-700 camera didn't get a good clear picture of it or I'd post it up. Phil.
