Hey, you have a valid point, but that is something you must learn to love... "gotta love those Japanese, they know the way of the samurai"

i still can has teh Japanese Subaru.

to be serious, the SVX is an awesome GT "highway cruiser", but i am almost never on the highway - just stop-and-go traffic.

i needed acceleration and handling, not high speed cruising in comfort.

agreed +1

only problem was, i had neither the time or the know-how to make a 300+hp SVX. i couldn't even do the longassname ECU thing, 'cause it was OBDII.

with the LGT, slap some bolt-on parts on, and

Meh, if I could have done it all over again I would have chosen a different path anyway

I traded my SVX strait up for a 97 Ford Explorer XLT with v8 and AWD. I had just put $1000 in tires on the explorer, $1200 worth of brakes and suspension, and the truck road like a dream. But, I needed a car, I needed to go faster, I needed more than 10mpg highway.

Now that some time has passed, I'm looking to get back into a v8 explorer, expedition, yukon, or tahoe, not as a daily driver, I have my legacy for that, but for a hauler. How do people get by with just one car?

I basically sold my 94 Explorer XLT and a bunch of side projects to purchase the SVX.

Had I not gone for the SVX,
(First day)

I would have probably pursued a 300ZX, a Lexus SC or an RX7. I had my eye on a number of different cars at the time, but my first SVX came up for only $1250 and it just needed a MAF!

I would have also kept another one of my projects around...

I was just looking for a good, used Subaru and figured on paying six to eight grand, so when I found online that I could snag a decent SVX (about which I'd completely forgotten since its introduction because there aren't many down here) for half that, the deal was sealed. Had the SVX market been at $8000+ I'd probably be driving a late-90s Legacy, maybe backed-up by a late-80s GL wagon.

i have no kids, giant dogs, horses, things that attach to a trailer hitch, don't live on a farm, and i don't need to haul around loads of wood, drywall, bales of hay, or gravel?

one car FTW!

We didn't all get in cheap, my first was $9000 plus a $3000+ transmission but that was January 1999, now I'm driving the SVX of the truck world, but that's more out of need than want, I'd love to have a few SVXs to drive again and I have an engine in the barn to install in my Vanagon at some point, so I can drive an SVX even when I'm not driving an SVX that and the 20k motorcycle I want to buy this summer

"Cheap" was a term I swiped from the other thread. The point is that they're not selling for typical collector prices - try buying a 15 year old Ferrari for 1/8th its original price? Let me rephrase it and ask...

If you didn't buy your new, and if they were selling for collector prices instead of those that we paid ($12k in your case), would you still have paid some $45k for it (3-4x the price), and if not, what would you be driving instead?
