Before you part that car.

2 years, $10,000. Today the SVX was licensed again. Here is the lowdown.

Tranny crapped out on me 2 years ago, I got it fixed 8 months ago, but the sitting did a number on the car, this is what I've replaced to make it reliable again.

Transmission
Front diff
rear diff
Radiator
AC compressor
Alternator
All vacum, egr, and fuel hoses
All belts (timing, alt, ac)
New cats
New 02 sensors
New intake gaskets
New water manifold
New EGR vaccum switch
New dome light
new map lights
completly swapped interior, includings seats, carpet, dash, gage cluster
new passenger side tail light
new trunk carpet, floor, and sides.
new time control unit
new seatbelt ecu
new shiftlock module
new clock
new tps
new sunroof tracks
new wheel well cowlings
new tires.

Yes, I'm insane.

As I see it, we have a commitment to our cars, they aren't making anymore of them. I would have spent far less money simply parting mine out and buying a another, newer one, but now I have one I know is good for another 10-15 years. There is also not a single area of the SVX I have not learned about, from auto tranny theory to how to properly clean your headlights. It was expensive, but it was ultimately very rewarding.

I'll get off of my soapbox now

-Patrick

impressive... my loyalty (measured in dollars) is exactly 50% of what I paid for my car.

The man loves his car more than any other. Give him a break. Mine has been sitting for a little more than a year now too and I'm probably heading in the same direction he is.

Damn, where did you park it? Under a pine tree?

I've had mine for 2 weeks and have already spent $1500 on it.
$1000 just in wheels and tires. Another $300+ for the windshield and more $ for odds and ends.

When it comes to parting, sometimes I just wanna grab the people who complain and go, "Okay fine, I'll trade you my needs-serious-work-done SVX for your works-just-fine SVX. That way the car doesn't have to be parted out, and you can feel special."

Except then I would worry about people like Pat who actually go about fixing these things completely...

Hmmm, sounds like she needs a good road trip to stretch her legs a bit...

Perhaps a trip up to WA for Fall Colors Tour tomorrow?

Lol, I'd love to, but my Dad and step mom are celebrating their 60th, and 50th birthdays tomorrow there is going to be like 100 people there, and I have to give a speech.

That, and I'm running a lot of untested components, the towing charge from nowhere, WA, would be a little excessive if I forgot to tighten a critical bolt.

I will be at the next one, as the Subaru Gods are my witness.

Well it certainly sounds excessive but if you lookat the cost of replacing a similar car (new) in today's dollars you're probably looking at $50-$60,000.So a mere $10 grand is a smart move....
Congratulations on getting it back on the road and for having the dedication and commitment to get it done. Are there pictures coming....
