Red face I'm close to giving up on my search!

My current SVX is going to a new owner around the last week of January/first week of February in '06. I have until then to find a replacement SVX to 'upgrade' in '06.

Ideally, I'd like a '95 SVX L/LSi in Laguna Blue, but as they're rare I'm looking for an ebony '92 LS-L (w/ spoiler) with less than 100K miles, no accidents and a reasonably clean body and interior.

I've checked everywhere online including autobytel, cars, autotrader, ebay, autoextra and carfax over the last 2-3 months with no luck.

As it's Winter time, I don't want to drive an SVX back home hundreds of miles on unfamiliar highways with snow/ice. I'll therefore need to find one somewhere in the mid-atlantic area (NJ, PA, DE, MD, DC, VA, WV & NC).

I have a few leads but they're running out. I'm willing to pay a fair price for the right SVX but not through the nose... Btw, the SVX needs to have <100K miles as I'll be putting over 8K in mods into the car (incl/ a 5spd swap) and doing this on a high mileage SVX would just make no sense.

If you have a lead to one locally or own one that matches my above requirements, please e-mail me at: chiketkd 'at' yahoo.com.

I just hope this isn't goodbye...

-Chike

P.S. If I can't find a suitable SVX that matches my above requirements (not interested in a claret, silver, pearlie or teal at this time) then I'll pick up another sports car/coupe (to drag race & autox in '06) and hunt for an ebony '92 again in a year's time. This other sports car probably won't be a Subaru, but most likely a 300ZX TT (previously owned one for over 1 yr) or 3000GT VR-4 (over the years I've come close to buying 4 different ones).

One thing I should also add is that my wife and I will be picking up a true 'third' car around tax return time in '06, at which point I'll be able to use her current Mitsu Lancer as a daily driver.

It's therefore a necessity that I pick up another car before my current SVX is sold as we cannot live on one car with our work schedules for 2-3 months.

I'm not prepared to 'settle' for something outside of my parameters as the upgrades I'll be doing will spare no expense! 92's are the most common year and I don't feel I'm being too picky.

It might help Bill, and I'll keep it in mind in my search. However, finding one with it will allow me to spend the most money on converting the SVX into my true dream car.

-Chike

P.S. Understand everyone that out of courtesy, I'm putting all of my plans out in the open as I've come to be close friends with several members over the years.

I just don't see how you couldn't settle for a silver or pearly.
HAWT imho.

Finding a lower mileage 92 will be pretty difficult. Mine gets driven half as much as the average car and it's still 5k over 100. :/

Why did Solarsvx only want a low mileage pearlie '92? It's a matter of taste.

Ebony isn't a rare color and a sub 100K '92 isn't too rare. However, things always have a way of vanishing when you really want one!

I'm thinking +ve at this point!

Cool

I'm not sure why the 100K thing is so important to you. A '92 (now 14 years old, mind you) would have to have averaged about 7.2K per year to qualify. With about 12-15K per year considered "average" in today's world, your looking at a "city" car, or a weekend "granny" tourer. I'd take a 175K daily long range commuter over a "stop 'n go" 75K machine any time. Plus, as you're shedding the big money pit (tranny), & I'll bet the stock suspension & brakes, what's left to sweat but the bearings & saggy visors, which a "low mileage" SVX can give up just as easily as 200K beast?

Ron - Has a mint ebony '92 not for sale (OK, first 7K takes it) - sorry Chike.

I hear you Ron, but a <100K mile engine is still relatively common (over 10 on autotrader currently nationwide) and is still 'fresh' enough to run strong for another 100-150K miles (after the mods I plan).

If I was looking for a 20-30K mile SVX, then I'd agree that my expectations were unreasonable...

Like I have said before... 180-190k is the cut off you should be looking at. The 160k motor I had in the ebony ran me a 14.8 but the 88k motor I put in only ran me 15 flats.... It is all maintainence my friend...

Chike you could always get a high mileage car in good condition for cheap and then swap a low mileage motor into it. You could then use the money you saved on the car itself on doing a motor swap...even though that might not be in your plans. Just an idea.

I hear ya Tom, and that is the main reason why I want to buy the '92 directly from a private party (who can show me proof of maintenance).

I just don't see any point in putting 8K+ into a high mileage SVX or any car for that matter (that might only have a value of 3-4K).

At the end of the day, I'd like another SVX, but really and truly it's just a car and I can't put my family out if I don't find a suitable one by the end of January. Heck, one of my friends is telling me to buy an early 90's miata for 2K and use my spare cash to convert it into an SCCA spec racer.

I totally can't picture you in a miata for some reason. I think the svx suits you nicely

I thought about that, but most high mileage SVXs I've found have been through a few accidents or have really rough body work (I guess door dings, dents, etc. have a greater chance of occuring on a car that's driven a lot).

Understand guys that I'm frustrated here. I had big plans for '06 but time is running out and Winter is setting in.
