Its official!! SVX #2

Yes, its about time.
Your administrator has finally caught on to the "no one can buy just one" theme.
For me, I have bought my second teal 1992 SVX. This one has much less wear and tear on it, paint looks good and so does the body. Interior looks like half the wear and tear of my current SVX.

The downside: Of couse, BLOWN TRANNY!

But this will work just fine with the plans for SVX racing. As my money picture improves, the tranny will come out and be shipped to Sam at Level 10. For an ungodly amount of money, he will bullet proof the tranny as a rebuild for racing, change the front ratio to 4:44 and send back a torque converter rated at roughly 3000 rpm stall. When it comes back, the good tranny in my current SVX comes out and goes into my new buy and it becomes the daily driver. My initial SVX then goes to the status of FULL RACE SVX! (Stay tuned)

I am a bit pumped at my buy, but also a bit weary knowing how much work and money needs to be accomplished.

Just thought I would share my news with you all!

Good news!
Question - How much is Level 10 charging you to put 4:44 gears in the SVX trans? This should answer the question - once and for all - as to whether 4:44 or 4:11 gears can be installed in the stock SVX front diff.

I also heard that the Chat Room is going to be made more compatible so that you won't need to have MS Java installed.

Well, Sam at Level 10 said he would:

Rebuild the tranny bullet proof with racing in mind,
lock the center diff for strength (less chance to break it),
rebuild the torque converter for roughly 3000 rpm stall,
replace front gear ring and pinion to that of 4:44 ratio,
shipping from ID to NJ and back.

From what he told me, it sounded as if he built the SVX auto transmission in the IHRA WRX drag car, and yes it has 4:44 gears and yes its an SVX tranny.

Due to the compute rcontrol design of the tranny, I CANNOT have it modified for a transbrake, but I will be using a launch control (aka all wheel line locks). Should make for an impressive launch when done!!

Nice one Chris.

Chris, I am delighted with your news.

Let us know how much it is going to cost for the tranny work from Level 10.

In detail.

I am interested because I want to buy a bulletproof kit from them. [I'm too far away to make it economical to ship]

So I'd like to know what exactly they think the tranny needs to make it race worthy.

Also, FYI, I have 4.11 tranny in my Silver Legacy, and it handles the power very well.[about 260 hp, I think, maybe more] More to my liking, top gear is relaxing for long drives, 3000 rpm is nearly 80. Better still, in POWER mode, she will wind right up to the red line at 7K before changing up, so delivers plenty of power for overtaking. The reason I tell you all this, I think the 4.11 gears are good[probably the best] for everyday driving, with better acceleration than the SVX 4EAT. For racing, I would go with the 4.44, but I sure would not be happy with the long distance driving experience, it would not be relaxed or long-legged enough, I think.

But that's just my opinion, don't be offended anyone who has a 4.44 fitted. To each his own.

$4500 complete with shipping included with that price.

Since the car will move roles into R&D racing, 4:44 was the optimal choice. If this was still going to be a daily driver, 3:90 or 4:11 would be better. Dont get me wrong, this car will still be stret legal. We are just changing its primary role to race R&D as well as competition

What exactly do they do for the $4500?

I would be expecting uprated clutch packs.
You have already mentioned a TC with high stall rpm.

Do they supply a hi-flow tranny oil pump for this money?
Do they open up the oil flow pasages in the solenoid valve chest?
Is there anything else they do to ensure the tranny stays working?
