That's an idea!

If there were just a supply of identical vintage F1 cars...like the earliest Alfa's....and put the current F1 stars in them for 30 laps
at Monaco. Skinny tires, no safety equipment, huge steering wheels..(man their arms would be sore!) Today's racers would learn a healthy respect for their elders!

I actually think the FIA should raise the minimum height by about 5-6 inches. We'd see some interesting stuff, then.

Higher and higher

<I actually think the FIA should raise the minimum height by about 5-6 inches. We'd see some interesting stuff, then>

Along the lines of a sprint car? That would eliminate most ground effects I would think.....make the handling more dependent upon driver skill, or as Niki Lauda once said, "a sensitive butt"?

I guess I'm the type that wants to see technology pushed by F1. Absolute speed is of less importance for my personal racing pleasure.

If they want to reduce speed - "there no replacement for displacement" - go to a NA 1.5l V-8 mandate.

engine costs - specify/provide an alloy for blocks, heads, pistons etc. I hear tell of beryllium used in pistons at one point, etc.

let the teams fly with launch control, braking, traction control etc. The trickle-down effect for us (or me anyway) low budget types can't hurt.

beryllium

Hi Lee, Beryllium was banned in F-1 because of its toxicity. However, while it lasted it was lite and strong. Take care, BOBB

And that's exactly what the FIA are doing - next year the plan is to switch to a 2.4L V8 formula.

I have read rumors that 2.4L V8s would actually be capable of a higher specific output, believe it or not. Depending on the andlge used, apparently a V8 could reach higher revs more easily - along the order of 22-23k rpm.

Awesome. I can't wait to hear that.

well, it was Renault, Ferrari and Renault.... Good start for the French company. Micheal retired after a spin caused by nick Hiedfeld's little "off in the grass, too fast for the corner" incodent. I think that it was a good move to retire though... We may just see the Red guys back on top at the next race... Personally, I am a Mercedes fan and will always be... I hope that they get their stuff together and start winning some races. They have two incredably talented drivers to work with...

Over all though, a great race... I guess this season isn't gonna be as bad as I once thought....

Can we get a thread for the 2005 season Stickied??? Thanks mods

Dude, why didn't DC drive like that when he was at McLaren? What a great pass at the start of the race.

I want to know what happened to Trulli. How did he drop so many positions back? After his first stint they didn't cover him at all. Suddenly at the end of the race, 'oh, hey, what happened to that guy?'

Anyway, I'm so happy to see Fisichella win. I've been a big fan of that guy for years. I hope to see him on the top step more this year and I want desperately to see him kick Alonso's ass.

F-1

Hi all the F-1 fans, I was happy to see Renault win. My first new car was a R-8 Renault. Takes me back a few years. On a trip to FL. in the R-8 I cracked a plug outside a small GA. town on a Sunday morning. No one was around to look at the car till church was over. So I discovered that taking one plug wire off did not change anything so I removed the plug and found the plug destroyed . Put some kind of plug in it and off I went. Ain't youth grand! Take care, BOBB

I think the only thing that I am really dissapointed about is the fact that Mercedes didn't get off to a better start... I was hoping to atleast see one of them on the podium...
