Lightbulb ITALDesign

As a designer, I love cars as much for their look as for the grunt. This network is proof that I'm not alone. So I decided to peruse my many car books to check out some of the siblings to the SVX, that ITALDesign and/or Giugiaro worked on. I was impressed with our little Suby's bloodline. Here's a partial list:

- SAAB 9000
- Maserati Ghibli
- Gordon Keeble
- DeLorean DMC-12
- BMW M1
- Alfa Romeo Alfetta
- Lotus Espirit

Some of you might know these already, but I found it interesting. Each of these cars is considered a significant bit in automotive design history. Fo example, the BMW M1 is considered by many to be one of the finest GT cars ever built, giving 30mpg with almost 200mph perfomance...
James Bond drove an Espirit (that turned into a cool submarine) in The Spy Who Loved Me. And we all know DeLorean's claim to fame.
Google the names and check them out. Thats my rant for now, hope you enjoy.

I've been told giugiaro also helped on the first style of the legacy before the facelift. However I can't find anything to back that up. Significant facts about that car, it broke the world speed record in 1989 (or was it 1990) and won the home mechanic award for easiest car to work on in 1991, ponder on that one while you think about every single other car for sale in 1991.

I think they broke that record in 89. Ill check my suby performance mag to make sure. There was an article about the legacy's history in there.

Look up something called the Lotus Etna. It was a design study done for Lotus and looks very, very much like an SVX.

I really like Giugiaro's designs through that 'wedgy split window' phase he went through.

Now I get to be the party pooper, because I don't think anybody's mentioned it on this site yet:

The Chevy Aveo was styled by ItalDesign.

Seems all Italian design went through that wedgy look for their prototypes. Very avant-gard. I like how they decided to see how the angular look would work considering the classic car shapes (that made it to production) up until the late sixties were the voluptious lines (think Ferrari Testa Rossa). Very interesting indeed.
The Etna definatley has SVX ancestory written all over it. However, I'd still prefer a nice Elite

Absolutely! They do really amazing work. The outline/profile of my car evokes so much emotion every time I look at it.
