locked out
I locked myself out of my car today, it sucked. The guy tore up my weather striping trying to get in, and now the little black piece of trim at the base of my window rattles around. The little piece of rubber that used to make contact with my window is warped and no longer makes contact. There are scratches on the glass where he slid the thingie through to unlock it, oh yea, all this is on both sides. He tried to go through the driver side first, then passenger, he had alot of trouble so then he tried through the top of the door with a hanger and punctured the seal, I could not believe my eyes. I'm surprised he did not grab a hammer and go through the window! Just when I thought I could let it go on no longer, he got it. I was stuck, I had to let him try, or else call a taxi (pay), and then call a locksmith a couple of towns away, about 20 miles, and pay for him to do it, and then hope that he does not tear up my door. I know it is my fault for locking myself out, but I did not know my car was going to get thrashed by some hacker who did not care. Oh, I showed the guy what he did and he ajust shrugged and walked away, said thats what happens. I felt like destroying him and then saying, " That's what happens". Instead I will drive the car to the garage that did it and ask them to fix it, if they do not, I guess I will call my insurance company and see what they say, I just hope that this gets taken care of out of somebody else's pocket.

Good luck. Last time I locked my keys in the car, it was my beater and I had a spare parts car, so I asked my freind if I could borrow his tire iron, and you guessed it: bye-bye driver's window. I drove home, vacuumed up the glass and replaced the window in about an hour's time. Doug

Program the handel.
My 95 model has a programable door handle, do they all have it. Stuck my post code in there just in case. Tap out the code and the door opens.
Harvey.

For as long as I can remember, my dad always had one of those "Hide-a-Key" little magnetic boxes for keys, stuck somewhere on his cars. I continued this tradition, but it's become gradually more difficult to find something bare steel, within easy reach, to stick the magnet on. I brilliantly mounted one on the muffler. Needless to say the little key container, now made of plastic, came to resemble chewed bubblegum. I gave up on the hidden key thing....until your "reminder" here. Hnmmm....maybe a twist tie somewhere? Ron.

Ron - that's what I use. I put a twist tie on the key and find a place that no one else could find very easy, and wire it in place. I have used this trick for many years, and it has gotten me out of many jams. Yep, I lock my keys in the car every once in a while. With the SVX, becuase I use the key fob, it is more difficult to lock the keys in the car. I have done it though. I don't know what happened.
Recently I was with a friend when he bought his SVX. We brought my spare tires along (250 miles away) to see if a noise we were hearing was bearings or tire noise. As we were changing them, I saw a rock in the tread of the tire, and I pulled my keys out of my pocket to dislodge it, and the end of my key broke off. As I stood there in amazement, I got that sinking feeling in my stomach until I realised that I had a spare key wired underneath my car. Yep - you guessed it - it was gone. I called the local Subie dealer and gave them my vin number, and they looked up the code. They made me another key, and I picked it up and was back on the road. I then saw the number on the key which was the same number that they said was the key number. If you have an original key, you can find it on the key. Write it down someplace, a locksmith can make up a key from this number. It is a lot cheaper that having them make one up from scratch.

Hey Earl, didja hear about the blond that did this? Yup - for safe keeping she kept the number in the glovebox. Ron.

That's ruff that the tow truck driver messed up your car, but did he have you sign the waiver? We always made the customer sign a waiver before I touched the car, so they could back out if they want. That wasn't to long though, I ended up buying an inflate-A-wedge. Never found a car that I could scratch with that pillow sitting between the door and the body, you just couldn't pump it up to much cause you'd bend the door or break the glass. I believe that the garage will have to cover it if you call direct to AAA and tell them which garage did it, and that they didn't tell you they were going to destroy your seals. If you remembr the truck number, that helps too.
Great, and just the other day I was thinking "I've never hear anyone say, ohh crap, when the tow truck gets there" Maybe I was wrong. He gives us a bad name.

My story
As a newly minted driver on my FIRST trip into town I locked my keys in my car. I was near a police station so I went in and asked for some help.
An officer came out went over to his cruiser, opened the trunk and pulled out one of those little metal shim thingies. Walked over to my car and within two seconds had the door open. I just looked at him like he was a god. So easy. Why should I bother to lock it? That was my old '82 Buick Skylark. I suspect the SVX is a bit tougher to shimmy into.
