5 Speeds Baby!!!

Who has a 5 speed SVX? I'm thinking about the conversion, and was wondering if any of you have opinions about it.

Or maybe, the new BMW M3 true clutch less manual. Yeah baby!

I guess this means your 'no power' problem is fixed?

I have the 5 speed and it still doesn't really match up to my performance needs but I may be able to compromise w/ a 75 shot. I originally used an STI polypropelyne mount and found it to generate too much cabin vibration so I replaced it with the factory mount which I have now found to be too soft for my heavy foot. The ACT clutch is a definite must have, I used a two piece drive shaft from an outback and had it shortened 1.5" and switched carrier bearings. I used the pedal assembly from the outback and cut/retapped the piston rod for the brake booster. this setup interfered w/ the gas pedal which I then had to modify some to get the clearence needed. I would now like to convert an svx to a manual using a rear drive trans from a 300zx maybe.

If you want to convert to a five speed (not that there's anything wrong with that), I suggest that you contact Huck.

Have his e-mail?

I was going to have Small Car Performance do it, which I can give you the specs for, but i'm open to new options.

PM? I don't know what that is...i'll just post here...

Well, any improvement in 0-60 times?

Is the car any louder or quieter?

What kind of tranny and FD ratio did you use?

After those, then I have a few more...thanks!

PM (Personal Message) button at the bottom of the post

I haven't gotten any 0-60 times before or after, but I'm sure it's faster 0-60 with the manual and the 4:11 gears.

The car sounds pretty much the same, except maybe a little manual tranny whine, if you listen close enough.

I used an Impreza Tranny and 4:11 FD

I did a write up on the swap, it's located here:

http://www.subaru-svx.net/photos/files/How-To/1822.htm

It should answer most of your questions, if not, PM me

I tried the PM thing...it didn't work...sorry. I hope you don't mind answering here...

- How's your gas mileage?

- What's your top speed?

- How many RPM at 80?

- The Impreza tranny...is it strong enough? How are the shifts? Does it feel "right" in the SVX, smooth, etc.? How long have you had it installed? Is the car any noisier from the manual?

Thanks a lot.

-I got about 24 MPG going to the 10th Anniv. Meet(but the rear wheel bearing was grinding part of the way there and all the way home)

-I haven't try to find out the top speed, but figure it'll go just as fast as it did with the auto, even though it's geared lower-the auto and 3:54 stock gears couldn't overcome the wind resistance over about 150 MPH....where-as the manual with lower gears, through less drivetrain loss and the RPM range putting the available HP more into the range it needs to be, to overcome the wind resistance at that MPH.
In short I believe a SVX with a manual and 4:11 gears has a higher top speed than one with the stock gearing and an auto.

-I don't recall without going out and checking, but I think it runs around 3700RPM at 80
I thin Stevesby posted a site that you can input the gear ratios of your tranny, your tire size and your final drive ratio and it will tell you the speed at any RPM.

-I've had it in for over a year now, had no problems, the cheap clutch is still going, it shift like all Subaru manuals, kind of notchy. It looks and feels right at home in the SVX.

I've not regreted swapping it at all since I got it on the road.

3,800!?! My god...with the auto, I do 2,600. But then, mine is real ****ed up...even at that speed, 2,600 RPM, I get 13 MPG. Bewildering, really...

It's the same RPM's that an Outback with a manual would run, and the 2.2's and 2.5's don't have a problem with it
