I am by far a 'fan' of the SVX but I do enjoy its luxurious feel and sleek space ship looking design..just wouldn't buy one until there is more aftermarket performance support and it is getting there =) i'm excited to see how Nikfus's conversion turns out with the 5 speed...
However , someone bashing on the SVX without knowing anything about it is pathetic. A failed stab at the Subaru community that eats his honda up daily :/ oh well... I'm sure he considers a tuner and drift car something like this :

Sad part is that car wouldn't be so bad, without the huge azz wing and garbage can sized exhaust... Flares are a bit wide for my taste but at least THAT part of the car is somewhat clean.

The guy mentions the svx has no respect in the tuner comunity...does he even know what a tuner comunity is?
It's not about buying some pre-fabricated things, and getting into a whp dyno pissing contest against cars that arent even close to the same thing, in any way shape or form. This whole modern day tuning crap started with teens in japan racing eachother n the streets (Dumb idea, of course) and trying to make improvments to their cheap cars without spending 90k on a motor. And hell yeah, their suoped up econoboxes were slow, but they raced eachother, which kept it competetive, fun, and cheap. Nowadays the "tuner" scene is so over commercialized, it's nothing more than a battle of name brands and whp on cars that will never see the track. Look at us...we have no aftermarket. our cars can be had for under 2g initial purchace price. a few modified bushings here, a wad of bubble gum there, some home made air ducting...THIS is the tuning scene, they way it started, and the way it's meant to be. And look at the track guys...we compete against eachother. How uch more fun and fair can it get?

This car is owned by somebody with a great sense of humour. The exhaust cans and the wing are taken to extreme dimensions, just because the owner can, no pun intended. The SVX is a relatively restrained design. It is not advisable for US owners of an SVX to be too disparaging of the "tuner" and "ricer" people, even though I'm not a great fan of things bling myself. Don't forget your own motoring heritage. Back in the 50s and 60s American car design went loopy. False jet engine exhausts, anyone? Crazy wings at the back to mimic airplanes, a la Chevy Bel Air? Totally wonderful bonkers stuff, and coming from mainline manufacturers. Personally I would not have even graced that SVX insult with a response, just some kid feeling his oats. Joe

Sure, it was functional on the track. On the street? Not so much. Mysteriously cool, regardless. The old-iron generation of STi bashers should be reminded of these beasties when they criticize its wing! Er... /OT.

Up to that time racers just kept souping up the engines, throwing horsepower at the problem. An of course you are correct. As cool as it looks, the aerodynamics were designed for very high speeds, and were less useful at ordinary road speeds. One last funny point about the Superbird. The reason the rear wing is so high was because it is fixed to the bodywork. Somebody noticed that with the wing in it's original low position it did not allow the trunk lid to open!! The solution of raising the wing to dizzy heights is part of what makes this particular 'Bird soar in the imagination. Priceless Joe
