My baby is no more...

No, not the Taurus. I wouldn't call that my baby. C-GBJR, my favorite glider that I flew while getting my license, has been destroyed.

That yellow thing behind the main wreckage is the outter 10 feet of the left wing.

The student pilot was on her second solo light and on approach to land. She saw the canopy latch rattling and worried it might come loose (and the canopy would fly open), so she attempted to secure it. While doing this she apparently forgot she was supposed to be flying the glider. The nose dropped and the glider picked up speed and began to turn. The instructor on the ground radio'd her and told her to level the wings. She did, slammed down, bounced, and then hit the trees at something like 70 mph. The left wing was bent back 60 degrees and the outter portion torn off. The right wing is bent forward. The rest of the glider is basically toast.

The girl was taken to hospital and discharged within an hour.

Ah well, it'll be rebuilt.

And this is why i worry about my fiance taking piloting lessons. He's within weeks of his private license check ride and i still get knots in my tummy when i watch him take off.

Well, as a trained and licensed glider pilot, private pilot, and glider flight instructor with over 700 flights logged, I can tell you that everyone who flies knows what can happen, and we fly anyway. Things rarely go wrong, and when they do there is almost never a case that should result in harm to the pilot. As long as he follows his training, keeps a level head, and NEVER opens a line with "Hey, watch this..", everything will be fine.

Hmmm, airplanes arn't that bad, I had almost 3 auto accidents in 3 hours on thursday none at fault at least in an airplane you don't need to worry much about other drivers

Sorry to hear about the glider

Hahaha. That's what we call the "Big Sky Theory". Two little airplanes in a big sky, but somehow they seem to be able to find each other. Some people really shouldn't be flying, just like some people really shouldn't be driving. Like the little old lady tailgating me today in a Corolla with "Merle" on the license plate...

The wife was with me today on the interstate and a honda SUV thing was swinging across 3 lanes to 'keep up his momentum'.( It had a Washington DC tag), She asked, " why are there so many accidents on the freeways, when the road is so wide and straight"??

I told her that is because they haven't been able to put a 'BOUNTY' on the honda SUV drivers that CRASH so many INNOCENT people with their wreckless driving!! They CAUSE the crashes, but escape the CONSEQUENCES of their bad driving because there was no paint 'transfer'!!

That way they are free to cause MORE crashes, etc...

I wish ALL cars had a camera mounted to the dash!! That way, even the 'fatals' could 'PROSICUTE' even from the GRAVE!!

No kidding....Any time I see some jack*** flying down the highway weaving through traffic I secretly hope to see his car pulled over by the cops, or if he cut me off, I hope he plows it into a wall.
