SVX Demographics

As I understand it, there are about 296,000,000 people in the United States and about 25,000 SVXs were imported into the States. There are about 33,000,000 people in Canada and only about 700 SVXs were imported into Canada. That means that there are about 12,000 Americans for every SVX imported into the States and a whopping 47,000 Canadians for every SVX imported into Canada. SVXs are apparently much more rare north of the boarder than south.

33,000,000 / 700 = 47,142
296,000,000 / 25000 = 11,840

In the area in which I live (Cowichan Valley on Vancouver Island, British Columbia) there are about 80,000 people and 7 SVXs on the road. 80,000 / 7 = 11,428. That’s much closer to the American national average than the Canadian. Anybody know the ratio in Dabob?

It would be interesting to know what the current SVX survival rate is in our respective countries. Any ideas or information?

I hate to rain on your parade, but the total SVXes produced was 25,000 - world wide. There were only 14,257 imported into the US.

adjusted numbers

33,000,000 / 700 = 47,142
296,000,000 / 14,257 = 20,757

The ratio in Dabob or Burlington, is much higher than the National Average.

So I thought I'd try to get a better idea of just how many SVXs were sold in the States and Canada and how many are on the road today. I emailed subaru.ca with these questions and here's what they said:

"I was able to find out most of the information you requested, however only for Canada.

The number of SVX cars produced for and sold in Canada are as follows: (MY stands for model year)

1992 MY 667 units
1994 MY 203 units
1996 MY 30 units

For a total of 900 units nation-wide.

We have a company that provides market area reports and through them I was able to get an estimate on how many Subaru SVX cars are still on the road in Canada. They use several advanced formulas to estimate this number, so it is believed to be as accurate as possible without physically counting each car. The number is estimated at 761 (current as of December 31, 2004)

I hope this helps and apologize I was unable to provide Global or USA figures. Below is a link for Subaru of America - I would suggest filling out a contact form with your request for SVX data and hopefully they will be able to provide you with the USA info. Below are links for Subaru Global and Fuji Heavy Industries (the company which owns Subaru) maybe they can help you out with Global information.

*Thanks again for your interest in Subaru!"

Anybody want to follow up and get hard numbers for the States?

Those numbers are likely the numbers sold...not the model years. There are Canadian 1997 SVX's. Thing is I bet they didn't sell all the 1997 SVX's in 1996.
