Paint job prices

Any ideas on what a really nice paint job should be on our cars? I was quoted $6500. today with only 3 minor dents to flatten out and a bumper cover to replace. More than double what I was expecting. Good ol' NY.

Without colour change, I was just quoted 1800 and with 3000

I got a paint job w/o taking off all the parts (they just tape off sections). Did a color change, and got a good price, and you can't tell the difference unless you start removing body panels or really looking for it.

I'm guessing that doesn't qualify as "really nice", though.

I think it's kind-of like asking, "how much does a three bedroom house cost?" Answer: You can spend any amount of money.

I would also guess it will vary from state to state, but on average I would say a "good" paint job should run between 2-4k+ depending on color and how much prep work (ie: dent repair, etc.....) needs to be done.

4 grand for a decent but obvious (to an auto person) repaint. 6-10 grand for a factory quality job.

Man, 4k and I'd expect a factory job at least, 6500 and I'd want show quality with minimal bodywork. I'm in the wrong job only if bodymen didn't all develop dementia before cancer...

i was quoted 2k to include sanding, smoothing out scrapes/dings and a full repaint all around (no color change) mind you also the fiberglass trunk/wing and the composites (door pannels, rear window area, and the bumpers all need a flexing chemical added to the paint to bond without peel (avoid macco)

also considering painting must be blended to match existing colors (sun fading) and orangepeeling is bad

If you can take all the parts off yourself then you can save a good pile of $$$, I hate the tape-n-spray look. BTW, it isn't the body men that make mmoney, its the owners.
