Thumbs up Open For Business

Well for those of you that didn't know, I've been an un-employed bum for the last 2 months. Finding work in the IT industry has become a royal pain in the...erm...rear, since I was laid off from my last company. Well I finally decided to go into business for myself. Starting tomorrow, I'm my own boss.

Check out the new site I finally finished, let me know what you guys think:
www.open-innovations.com

Later,
Ryan

(BTW yes I know this is just a dumb plug for my business...but who cares)

Ryan, are you useing this forum to shamelessly promote your own business? Good. Actually, this is the one place you should be able to promote your business, among all your friends, totally without shame. After all, if you can't trust another SVXer, who can you trust. Best of luck in your endeavor!

Ryan,

I like the site. You may want to list where you are located somewhere on the site.

Good luck in your endevar. I went in to business for myself a few years back and it has been wonderful. I'm finally getting around to putting together a web site and literature.

I hope to read about you in Info World soon.

Doug

Good point. I had someone else tell me that too, it was simply something I never thought of.

I appreciate the positive feedback guys. Hopefully it all works out now.

ryan,

I was laid off in late October. I am also in IT and nobody is hiring here either. I wish I knew as much as you seem to as I would love to run my own business (I am only 24 and no way would I be able to hack it now). Anyway, I think the sight looks nice. The menu bar on the left is very professional looking. I sincerley wish you the best of luck!!

Well lets hope age has nothing to do with it. I'm only 22, so no excuses from you.

The fellow who started the first Ad Agency I worked for was 24. Within the first 5 years of the agency, we had built it to billing over a million dollars. The plus, in his case, was choosing the right people for the right tasks. Of course, there was a lot of overhead, payroll, equipment, etc. In the IT business, a lot of what you have to offer is intellectual property. If you have it, buddy, use it. Don't be afraid to ask people to pay you for "helping them out" when they have IT questions. Then, begin to build relationships with some hardware suppliers. I don't know all that's entailed in the IT business (I gave up marketing about 10 years ago) but, I know that there are a lot of small companies out there who can't afford their own IT guy(s), Can't afford the BIG IT firms, but, could probably use a little guidance from an experienced IT professional such as yourself on a project by project basis -- just snoop around for them.

best of luck to you

I am in the IT business myself. The industry is slow right now, but we supposed to be hiring two people in the first quarter to help offset the work load.
