If my cam seals or oil seal was leaking, would I have oil n the Timing Belt Cover?

After chaning a VERY obviously leaking valve cover, I moved on to the timing belt where I suspected a faulty cam and/or oil pump seal. After removing the TB covers, I found NO evidence of any oil inside the timing belt cover. There was a bit of dust, but no oily residue. I have yet to remove the "rear" valve covers, that is tomorrow, but if the seals were bad, shouldn't oil be leaking into those covers? Thanks.

In addition, the timing belt looks perfect (unlike my drive belts). do worn timing belts show obvious signs of wear (cracking, fraying, etc)?

Clarke
