Took a corner light apart

Well, I took a corner light apart and clear corners are a possibility. They just will need careful trimming and possibly a silver or black paint around the outside edge to mask the outer frame. Looks like I've made myself another project. Got to finish the grille first though.

wow, congrats on finding a way to get them apart without cracking them!

How many corners did you go through in your R&D?

Lwin,
I had one that had a broken amber reflector so I didn't care about it. After removing a small pin that looked like it anchored one end of the lense, I heated it in a box with a hair dryer in it. After a while I pulled it out and pryed near the two areas with the little clip in fingers until I got a little separation on the thin end (rear) and then continued to pry towards the other end. It came apart without breaking and I think I could do it again without much trouble. Oven heating might work even better. The black plastic becomes pretty flexible so there is not much danger of breaking that part.
I'll try to get some photos.

That sounds great. How's the grille coming along? Any idea of pricing yet too?

Cool Brian! I thought you said it was too hard to do... were you just sparked to give it another shot? Good luck, I can't wait to see the results.

was there a bunch of black goo?
i've taken apart corners on the impreza b4, and it's held in place w/ a bunch of black good, and you heat it up w/ a hair dryer, and the back piece becomes very soft, and the black good melts, and you can pull it apart,

but the amber piece, is surely harder...

Yup, that's it, black goo, etc. The amber reflector is glued into the lens and won't want to come out without breakage or cutting.

The amber reflector removal mod has been done extensively on Imprezas, they have a very similar corner light.

Here's the link to the VERY in-depth procedure... Thanks to Kastle for this one.

Our corner light has no clear over the amber. Our corner is integrated orange and clear in a single peice. If you remove the orange, you have a hole, not clear plastic.

Agreed with Doug. I even tried to drill the orange out. Not a good way to go.

I on the other hand have the perfect corner to turn into a clear piece. HEHE..
