ECU query

Hi All,

I have an New Zealand new 1995 SVX which is having ECU issues (OBD1); will JDM 1991 ECU work as a replacement? Or s there a firmware or wiring difference with different years?

If firmware difference can they be updated?

Cheers

John

Re: ECU query

I don't have the answer to your question, but here are some SVX ECU resources I've found useful in the past:

Overview:
http://www.alcyone.org.uk/ssm/ecuinfo.html

List of different ROM images:
http://www.alcyone.org.uk/ssm/ecuroms.html

How to modify the ECU image:
http://www.alcyone.org.uk/ssm/ecumod.html

Hope it's useful.

Cheers,
Ian.

Re: ECU query

Hi All,

I received the following from Phil in the UK:

"The different market ECUs are not 100% interchangable, the car will run
but unless you are lucky, you will get error codes. If you need a
replacement ECU then I would advise to try and get one from NZ,
Australia, or the UK. Maybe Europe also, I'm not sure that all the
European ones are the same though.

The JDM cars have catalyst temperature sensors, a 180kmh speed limiter,
and they don't have EGR control. The Euro/UK cars have EGR and I assume
the Aussie/NZ ones are the same. The US cars have a different sort of
EGR and an atmospheric pressure sensor. When I tried a UK ECU in my JDM
car I got an error code because of no EGR system."

Fingers crossed I am lucky!

Has anyone installed any alternative ECUs?

Cheers

John

Re: ECU query

JDM unit swapped out and returned error 32 & 37 (LH & RH O2 sensors); turns out my SVX doesn't have them so explains the errors! My original ECU is off for repair and hopefully comes back all good again!

Re: ECU query

They make O2 sensor emulators/simulators. They are very cheap and fool the ECU into thinking the O2 sensors are present. Folks use them when they remove all the catalytic bits and change the exhaust for better sound and performance.
This will only work if the wiring is there for the sensors to connect the simulators.

Re: ECU query

Thanks for the info!

Not sure if the wiring exists... if my original ECU comes back as no good will look at that option. Saves driving around the CEL on all the time!

Loving having my girl back!
