SVX front axles and axle compatability for manual install

Hi all, in the midst of a sti 6 speed install. The donor is a 2017 sti. Couple of question.

Removed the stock svx axles and one is noticeably beefier on the side that connects to the stock 4EAT, is that normal? Are stock axles specific to driver/passenger side?

Will the stock axles work in a 2017 sti transmission? Comparing the two side by side they are relatively similar in length but different on either end.

Of all swap installs I've read everyone seems to be using the stock axles regardless of transmission without issue.

Thanks

Re: SVX front axles and axle compatability for manual install

I've not yet done a manual transmission swap (yet) and no nothing about your 2017 transmission, it's also been ages since I've done CV axles as well.

But, from what I remember CV axles on the SVX should be identical, and if you need to replace them, you should replace both at once (e.g. don't have a reman axle on one side and a new one on the other side). Sounds like somebody may have replaced just one axle at some point in the past.

I did read a lot on manual transmission swaps, and the general trick seemed to be remove the receiver cup from your SVX 4EAT and install them in manual transmission, this will let you install the SVX axles on the 2017 transmission.

Hi Irox, thanks for your comments. When you say 4eat "receiver" can you be more specific? I imagine you mean more than the differential seal...

Yeah, sorry, I'm lost for the correct terminology for that part.

After some poking around the web, the part appears to be called:
Transmission Retainer Differential Side
or
Differential Side Retainer

Like this:

This is for the outback, but gives some info on it's removal:

Exploded diagram:

I think the idea is remove that and the short shaft axle from the SVX transmission, and install it on the new transmission to keep using the SVX CV axles.
