Unhappy Speaking of Remotes.. (A little programming help)

Somehow one of my overhead spot lites got left on in the car and my battery went DEAD (hadn't driven the SVX for a few days). (Luckily I have the Shotsky model Red-Top spiral cell battery so it should be OK after a recharge. )

Neither mine or my wife's remotes are now working, though, so I think the low battery took 'out' the memory for the remote codes.

Does anyone remember the procedure to 'teach' the remote codes to the SVX? I've got a fresh 'spare' remote for my use- I guess it's time to put it to use. (My original is getting REALLY ratty looking.)

Thanks for the help.

-Mark

Mark, Try using the search button up there ^^^^. You should have no problems finding the procedure.

Remote Programming Problems

I tried the programming method below (which I found through a search- thanks, Mike, for the suggestion!), but I can't get to 'third base'. I keep pressing the 'security' switch and nothing beeps, clicks, etc.

Anyone got any further suggestions?

-Mark

To program the alarm:

1. make sure alarm (SECURITY) button on car is off.
2. turn key (ON) then back (OFF) (key only-not ignition)
3. push alarm button rapidly 8-12 times, until your horn beeps (AND CLICKING SOUND IS HEARD FROM GLOVE BOX).
4. push alarm remote button (FOUR TIMES -- IF YOU HAVE TWO REMOTES, PUSH ONE TWICE, THEN, THE OTHER TWICE -- FOR A TOTAL OF FOUR) to activate it.
5. turn car (ON -- KEY ONLY, NOT IGNITION -- THEN BACK OFF).
6. MAKE SURE SECURITY SWITCH IS ON AND RED LIGHT ON SWITCH IS FLASHING.
7. MAKE SURE ALL DOORS AND TRUNK ARE CLOSED.
6. and hit remote button (HORN BEEPS ONCE TO ARM/LOCK, TWICE TO UNARM/UNLOCK -- IF SECURITY SWITCH IS OFF, YOU'LL HEAR THREE SHORT BEEPS AND THE DOORS WILL LOCK -- BUT ALARM WILL NOT ARM.

Mark,
Sounds like you've hit that "weird quandry" stage in the SVX security system. Just guessing, but, when your switch is on, I'll bet your light stays on steadily (does not flash). Am I correct? If so, the situation sometimes corrects itself, sometimes it doesn't. I've posted my theory on this, a few times. I won't go into it, but, I'm thinking if you disconnect the control unit, and let everything drain (including the back-up capacitors), then, plug it back in, then, it may re-set itself. Someone was going to try this for me, but, I've never heard how they got on with the "R&D."

If, for some reason, you get NO light at all, on the security switch, then, my feeling is, that the unit is fried. Just a guess, though.

I have had problems with this when I had a dead battery. I unhooked the battery again for awhile, and it worked again. Your theory works! It did for me anyways. Good luck.

I,v had my battery disconected many times, during stereo installs, and 5speed swap, and my remote continues to work fine. However I have no red flashy, never has, but the alarm works fine, except I can't program my new remote, same prob. no third base.

Mine has never faltered after a battery disconnect, either. I'm guessing that perhaps an inadvertent grounding may have taken place in some of the cases where the system went inop.

You should get a flash if the security system is on. A steady light if the system is off. The flash, not only indicates that the system is on, but, gives you clues as to which part of the car was "fiddled with" in case of an attempted break-in.
