Maf Broke?
The car is idling ruff. Running rich, no power on hills, shuts off randomly, cuts out when driving at 40 MPH ( feels like I turned the key on and off )
Repair shop says the MAF is shot. Tapping on it with car running causes it to cut out to shut off compleatly. Any comments? |

If you do a search there's a How To on resoldering the connections under the square black cap. It works very well and solves most issues.

Could be the MAF. Mine would cut off randomly and right back on. It got to the point one day (warmer day) it cut off and back on about 10 times in a row, did not have any power. I was able to get off the road, sat for a minute and drive it home. Very random and MAF cleaner helped a bit but only masked the problem. I would start with a simple re-solder. If that doesn't work, look for a new (or used) one.

Garage ordered a new one. Frowned on used parts supplied by owner, for obvious rea$ons Seems like a logical solution this came on all of a sudden. Was running fine I shifted and it died and after that it was no power( thank God it is a standard) a few times I put in the clutch and pop stated it in traffic. Sitting at lights I would sometimes feather the gas. Definitely a fuel issue. Starts fine and is ok for about 3 min. Then it loads up. I will let you know how I make out.

I had exact same prob with my '92....tried cleaning mine, but did not help..ordered new one online, installed and working fine...easy repair for a major headache..good luck, Frogman75

New MAF installed. Car runs much better. Still not full power in 5 th. seems like it is on 5 cylinders . I cleared code. And now waiting for the. CEL to pop on . I think fouled plug or. Bad injector. Repair guys. Says drive it. 50 miles. And see if the ECU re learns . Is this a bunch of. Crap?

That was my guess too. I will check codes when CEL. Returns. MAF was bad car runs 50% better.

Ask for the old MAF back. You can repair it and have it as a back up, or you can sell it.
