Hood struts alternatives?
I'm tired of the sagging struts and the mods to fix them. Is there any hood rods (the ones that pivot on the frame and gets wedged under the hood) from other vehicles that can work with the SVX?

Re: Hood struts alternatives?
Everything you are going to need will be found in THIS THREAD
Start on post #24 and go through post #27. it will give you the website to SPD hardware And the numbers for the gas struts and ball studs. Use the SPD GSNI- 2449-89 for the best performance and highest lift. Just put the bottom of the strut (attached to the bracket) into a vice and drill out the rivet from the back of the bracket until it separates into 2 pieces. Be sure to save the nylon bushings. The easiest mod around. No cutting, grinding, tapping, etc. Ask svxfiles as he just did this exact mod, along with myself and many others. [2] M8 x 1.25 nuts (hardware store) [2] nylon bushings (used from old hood struts) [4] BS-1002 ball studs [2] GSNI-2250-90 struts. SPD Hardware Gas springs page Ball studs. Re: Hood struts alternatives?
Thanks. I did see this thread, but I rather go with the traditional old method of a rod.

Re: Hood struts alternatives?
i bought a small clamp from matco that attaches to the existing strut rod and keeps it from moving. i think it was around 10 bucks and i just leave it in the engine bay.
here is one on amazon for 20 but if you look around i'm sure you can find it cheaper. http://www.amazon.com/Universal-Supp.../dp/B0031MKFTK

Re: Hood struts alternatives?
I've still got a good share of those ball studs in my basement. Anyone who's interested, PM me and we'll work out some ridiculously cheap price to put them to use?

Re: Hood struts alternatives?
That's a miniature vise grip! It will eventually cause damage and the strut won't be able to retract.

Re: Hood struts alternatives?
Between repairs, cleaning and checking fluids, it sometimes it seems like the hood is always up on the SVX. I have to say it is really nice to have working hood struts and I figure for the relatively low cost of the repair, you may as well do it right. The mod or new ones that is; both work great, and neither option is that much money. I mean really!

Re: Hood struts alternatives?
i bought it the day after i bought my svx and the strut isn't even scratched. it takes very little force to clamp the rod.

Re: Hood struts alternatives?
I decided to go with the universal adjustable hood support from Amazon. It is heavy duty!
